All I have to add to the English pronunciation Discourse is that posh Englishpeople do not pronounce the final "r" in "Caesar" and "banner" but do pronounce the final "r" in "Louisa" and "Anna", and I think that tells you all you need to know about the sanctity of the language and its pronunciation.

going to do a big asterisk here: while i can't tell who OP is and where they are from, there are a lot of brits/englishpeople in this discourse, and the rise of the nuclear family in england occurred in the mid to late medieval age, not in the 20th century

Of course, the French used to refer to Englishpeople as "goddams," but that was a long, long, long time ago.
Perhaps the relatively good showing of "goddam" for so long indicates that a lot of people were still talking about the play The Shanghai Gesture, but I can't know for sure.
