SALZBURG, Austria — Armenian Orthodox Archbishop of Daramsuq (Damascus) and its Environs Armash Nalbandian warned that Syria’s Christians face growing political marginalization, emigration, and insecurity, raising questions about their future in the country’s emerging political order. Speaking during the annual meeting of Christians in the East Initiative in Salzburg, Austria, Nalbandian said Christians feel increasingly excluded from political decision-making and questioned their place in what he called the “new Syria.” His remarks come amid growing concerns among Christian politicians and clergy over political representation, citizenship, equality, rights, and the continued decline of the Christian and Armenian presence in the country.

In a statement marking the start of the new academic year, the DEM Party’s Commission for Language, Culture, and Arts said millions of children, particularly Kurdish children, continue to enter the education system without the opportunity to study in their native language.
