The universal cultural references to 1984/F451 I see in discourse concerns me that either they didn't actually read it (likely) or they've never actually engaged with systemic proclivities it critiques. I wonder how able teens are to engage with this stuff. Not that I doubt they should be.

Completely agree. Furthermore, Thompson was just a drop in the bucket with respect to gun violence, and is getting FAR more attention than is warranted.

I've taught Lord of the Flies, Night and F451 to sophs annually for decades and I'm getting reeeeaallly tired of all the "teachable moments" lately. Dystopia is no longer a remote concept to any of us.
