#FASCIANS
the marxist (bad, vulgar) / marxian (good, smart) distinction is good. we should try it with other things. christists and christians. see? works great. straussists and straussians, nietzschists and nietzscheans. bing, two for two. fascists and fascians. nope, ok, shut it down, back to the lab

I Google-lensed the image & it suggested images (some with forsythia flowers in background) entitled Nocardiaceae. A related term appears, Rhodococcus fascians. This suggests it might be a bacterial infestation of Rhodococcus fascians that can hit forsythia. Well out of any expertise I have though!

The paper represents the excellent efforts of Jonny Ford, a previous PhD student in the group, along with multiple collaborators, including PDF expertise from the Rodnina group, plus Isolde Francis and Danny Veerecke, who provided some hugely important R. fascians expertise 4/4

While the BGC is on the R. fascians pathogenicity plasmid, we could not detect a direct role in pathogenicity for the molecule. Instead, it contributes to microbial competition during plant colonisation. 3/4

New pre-print from the group 🥳 We use targeted genome mining to show that the plant pathogen Rhodococcus fascians makes the antibiotic lydiamycin. The BGC information then informed the discovery of multiple key features relating to the molecule 1/4

Ah yes. I'll have the Bobsled with tail and fascians please.

A fasciated Water Figwort (Scrophularia auriculata) plant. Caused by genetic mutation, viral infection, or the bacterium Rhodococcus fascians, it causes these wide and flat stems, with many more flowers than usual.
