In honor of upcoming Valentine’s Day here is a classic example of rosette-forming glioneuronal tumor. These grade 1 tumors typically show a hotspot mutation in FGFR1 along with PIK3R1 or PIK3CA alterations and are usually found in the fourth ventricle 🌹 ♥️ 🥀 🧠 🔬 #pathsky #neuropath #medsky

It’s incredibly exciting when a completely different approach supports an unexpected finding from your group. Recently, we published that LDLR is captured with EGFR and FGFR1 at clathrin sites after EGF stimulation. I love science.

Graduate student Morgan Fox gave a very nice talk on how the non-canonical activation of FGFR1 drives brain metastasis of ER+ breast cancer in aged mice (or “non-young” as Devon Lawson diplomatically put it for those of us over 40!)

The most commonly known genes involved are ANOS1 (formerly KAL1) and FGFR1.
Other frequently implicated genes include FGF8, PROK2, PROKR2, and CHD7.
