i've been around enough that everything about 2077, down to it being an imsim-tinged FPSRPG take on a niche grimdark TTRPG from the early 90s, is somehow a two nickels thing. the exact same shit happened to VTM Bloodlines. i have loved VTM Bloodlines for 20 years and am not beating Troika up for it

I get really annoyed by the term "immersive sim" as a genre label. Completely meaningless! Show me an imsim and ill show you an FPSRPG with some puzzle elements.

When I get my ass beat in a turn-based RPG because I couldn't handle a stat differential I think "welp I got owned, time to do better or grind", when a random mook shrugs off 30 seconds of sustained gunfire in an FPSRPG hybrid I think "why did you bother making this an into an FPS"

Destiny didn’t invent the minimap radar at all, but I’m pretty sure the announcement show for the game directly said they looked at Destiny as an inspiration. That’s not a bad thing either, Destiny plays really well as an FPSRPG, it’s the other stuff that makes it suck sometimes.

Mmm, the writing has improved. But personally, Fallout 4 feels lesser as a package than 3. Like it's just a base builder with an FPSRPG tacked on. Hell, even the actual RPG elements are sparse compared to 3 and especially New Vegas.

My partner did not believe I was moving on from perfect dark modding to work on an indie game project with her until I directed her to these two hub world stage pads.
It was a launch Source engine game so had jank, but the community patches fix it all and it runs great now on modern pcs.
Absolutely phenomenal FPSRPG, also one of the best video games at capturing a tabletop role playing feel. You have an actual character sheet even.
