DOSBox-X feels slow? Forget it. Try DOSEMU2. Mother of God. (FastDoom VESA 1600x1200 mode on my laptop with an Intel i5-7440HQ)

DOSBox-X: 14 fps
DOSEMU2: 197 fps

I've added support for the Roland MT-32 to FastDoom, but I can currently only test it using emulators. Could anyone help me test it on a real MT-32? #DOScember #FastDOOM

Here's a version of @viti95.bsky.social's FastDoom with keyboard code that should work on an XT.

2/2 For anyone curious, this is FastDoom by @viti95.bsky.social , which supports many graphical modes including EGA/CGA. This is one of the 16 colour text/terminal modes. I did a video on it a while back if you'd like to learn more.

Such an awesome project 😁👍

Because the Graphics Gremlin HDMI’s digital video output is hardwired 2 bits per channel, digital output of the color modes is off the table - but it’s still sufficient for simultaneous MDA. The MCGA+ core is multiple cards in one just like the quirkiest early boards. Mah Jongg VGA and FastDoom MDA

Adding scaling support for VESA backbuffered modes in #FastDoom. Great for laptops that don't have good native scaling support and are not fast enough for native high resolution modes.

I think I’ve found a way to optimize the R_DrawSpanBackbuffer and R_DrawSpanVBE2 functions in FastDoom for Intel Pentium and AMD K6 processors by avoiding the SHLD instruction (it’s used twice per pixel drawn).

So I'm going to use it in my upcoming 386DX-40 PC build, never thought I'd have an enjoyable DOOM (Standard Doom, not FastDoom) experience on a 386 before, this is really great!
