#FermiEstimating
One of the topics in our current Stanford #mathCircle is #FermiEstimating. I love how this 2nd grader described estimating the leaves on a tree. #mtbos #iteachmath #mathisfun #mathiseverywhere

In ChapelHill #mathCircle my kiddo led a group w/her #origami love. I worked w/my 1st-3rd graders on #FermiEstimating. Several est. bricks on a walkway, leaves on shrubs, people at a white coat ceremony, etal. I disproved one who said they go to 1000 homes at #Halloween. #mtbos #iteachmath #mathisfun

It was so fun doing #fermiEstimating with my level 3 students. I also shared the #travelingSaleswomanProblem and tomorrow, with level 2, will share TSP as well as the #partitionProblem which I so love going through in detail in my 1st/2nd grade Stanford #mathCircle. #mathisfun #iteachmath #mtbos

Almost a million dosas: I'm excited in part 2 of our level 3 unit on estimating @trianglemath.bsky.social to introduce #FermiEstimating with cool problems like estimating how much pizza or dosa (!) will be eaten today in the U.S.A. We'll do many other estimations too! #mtbos #iteachmath #mathisfun

I love in-person & remote tutoring. Each week I work w/ a smart 1st grader (since he was a Kindergartener) remotely & just finished our 40m session. We talked last week about estimating; he claimed he could differentiate large numbers. We're leading to #mathisfun #fermiEstimating! #mtbos #iteachmath
