I have a 2nd grader in #mathCircle who has a very nice answer about how to figure out if a rectangular grid has an even or odd number of squares. If (at least) one dimension is even, the grid can be split into two equal parts. Brava! No multiplication needed! #mtbos #iteachmath #mathisfun

We found (1+2+3+ ... + n) (1+2+3+ ... +n)s rectangles in nxn chessboards in my 1st/2nd grade Stanford #mathCircle; a 2nd grdr found a nice pattern. I love how this 1st grader showed what might happen. #mtbos #iteachmath #mathisfun
