The latest data is once again showing the preliminary global sea-surface temperature at a record high.

"Tomorrow, and tomorrow, and tomorrow, creeps in this petty pace from day to day, to the last syllable of recorded time; and all our yesterdays have lighted fools the way to dusty death."

The latest Nino 3.4 sea-surface temperature (preliminary) is 2.78°C above the 1991-2020 baseline, marking the 99th consecutive daily record, a full 0.79°C higher than the previous daily record set in 1997.

The Climate Casino is taking the OVER on 3.0°C by the end of September.

As of August 5th, global sea-surface temperatures just set a new preliminary record high of 21.20°C. This breaks the previous record high of 21.17°C set on April 24, 2024.

Yesterday's Nino 3.4 sea-surface temperature anomaly (preliminary) was a record 3.047°C above the 1991-2020 baseline, beating the previous record of 3.034°C set on November 19, 2015.

On September 11th, the preliminary Nino 3.4 sea-surface temperature measured 2.98°C above the 1991-2020 mean, which was 4.03 standard deviations above the mean. No previous year has broken 3SD.

For only the second time on record, global sea-surface temperatures are more than 6 standard deviations above the 1982-2011 baseline, reaching 6.21SD yesterday.

The record of 6.24SD was set on January 9, 2024. Maybe tomorrow? Stay tuned!

Here are the daily Nino 3.4 sea-surface temperature anomalies (1991-2020 baseline), from 1982 to present. The latest data from July 31th shows an anomaly just under 2.5°C.

It's already the 4th warmest El Nino on record with 3 months of additional heating ahead.
