You don’t need to know who someone is, agree with them, or become friends. Sometimes a shared rhythm, a little spatial consideration and mutual responsiveness are enough.

YOU ARE COMPETENT. POSSIBLY EXCELLENT. SO WHY DOES SUNDAY EVENING FEEL LIKE A SLOW PUNCTURE?
FieldNote 006: Why Does Being Good At Your Job Feel So Empty?
****The Leadership Glitch:**** You are competent. Possibly excellent. You deliver results, hit targets, and your calendar is full of people who need you. So why does Sunday evening feel like a slow puncture? The corporate system has a simple answer: perform better. Get promoted. Earn more. The system cannot conceive of a different diagnosis because the system only measures output. It has no instrument for meaning. ****The Kingdom Solution:**** The glitch is not your performance. It is the gap between what you are good at and what you were built for. Closing that gap is not a mindset shift. It is structural work on your inner architecture. It requires honest excavation and the courage to act on what you find. * * * https://youtu.be/5prfDC7sJ-4 ### **The Observation** Watch what happens when people retire. After forty years of competent, well-compensated work, they take up painting. Or woodworking. Or teaching English to refugees on Thursday mornings. Not because they finally have time. Because they finally have permission. The gift was there the whole time. Parked. Waiting. Running quietly in the background while something else took the wheel. That is not a retirement story. That is a formation tragedy dressed as a happy ending. ### **The Assessment** Your employer hired your competence. The thing you learned to do reliably, the skill that produces measurable output. That is a transaction and it is legitimate. But competence and giftedness are not the same thing. Your gift is what you do naturally, effortlessly, and with something that feels close to joy. Most people have never aimed their gift at their paid work. A fortunate few use it in a hobby. Most are waiting for retirement. The Corporate OS cannot diagnose this. It was not built to. ### **The Kingdom Intel** At the intersection of neuroscience and scripture, something important becomes visible. Your brain registers the difference between competent performance and gifted contribution. One activates the survival cycle: adequate, defended, draining. The other activates the creative cycle: generative, focused, alive. The biology is not neutral. You were not built for mere competence. Psalm 139 is not pastoral reassurance. It is a design specification. You were knit together with intention and purpose. Ephesians 2:10 calls you God's masterpiece, created for specific good works. Not generic good works. Specific ones. The ones your gift was shaped for. Running the wrong software on purpose built hardware is not humility. It is waste. ### **The Tactical Pivot** This week: one honest question. What task at work, however small, makes time disappear? Not the task you are praised for. The one that feels effortless and alive even when it is hard. Write it down. One sentence. Do not explain it or justify it yet. That is the beginning of your excavation. What's better today starts there. KFA out. * * * ## **RESEARCH FOUNDATION & FAQs** ### **Research Foundation** Roger Schwarz's creative and survival cycle research identifies distinct behavioural states under conditions of threat versus security. When individuals operate outside their zone of genuine giftedness, the work registers as chronic low-level threat to the system, activating defensive and draining patterns. Carol Dweck's growth mindset research and Deci and Ryan's Self-Determination Theory both point toward intrinsic motivation as the driver of sustained performance. Neither framework, however, locates the root cause in the gap between competence and giftedness. That gap is the Formation Engine running the wrong programme. ### **Frequently Asked Questions** _Why does my job feel meaningless even when I am successful?_ Success and meaning are not the same currency. The corporate system measures output and rewards competence. It has no mechanism for detecting whether your work is drawing on your genuine giftedness or simply your learned capability. When the two are misaligned, the biology registers it as a slow drain. You can perform excellently and feel progressively emptier at the same time. That is not ingratitude. That is your inner architecture telling you something true. _Why do I feel unfulfilled at work despite being good at my job?_ Being good at something is not sufficient grounds for doing it for forty years. Competence is learned. Giftedness is built in. The difference is felt rather than measured: one takes energy, the other generates it. Most people discover this at retirement when they finally give themselves permission to do the thing that was always theirs. The excavation does not have to wait that long. _How do I find work that uses my natural talents?_ Start with subtraction rather than addition. Do not ask what you should add to your work. Ask what tasks make time disappear and which ones make it drag. The gift is usually visible in the contrast. Most people already know the answer. They are waiting for permission or proof. Neither is coming from the outside.

TOXIC LEADERSHIP IS NOT A GLITCH. IT IS AN EXTRACTION ENGINE DESIGNED TO DRAIN YOU. ARE YOU RUNNING ON CONTAMINATED FUEL?
FieldNote 005: Why Does Toxic Leadership Always Reward The Plunderers?
****The Leadership Glitch**** The modern executive environment operates on extraction. You see the smiling predators and well-dressed parasites mining your creative energy. They flatter you, they copy your frameworks, and they pivot to offer your exact product with better branding. This toxic workplace breeds exhaustion because the worldly illusion says you must fight them for the scraps of influence. Your amygdala locks into overdrive. You believe you must hustle harder to beat the plunderers. This extraction is not a glitch; it is the design of the Corporate OS. ****The Kingdom Solution**** The antidote is not cynicism, nor is it fighting back with the same toxic weapons. You cannot defeat an extraction economy using its own tools. True structural resistance requires an active, daily decision to reinstall a different operating system entirely. You must step outside the plunder system and rebuild your inner architecture. This requires actual work. It demands yielding to the Holy Spirit and choosing sharp discernment over mere enablement. The __What's Better Today?__ framework does not offer you a quick formula to beat the toxic system at its own game. It offers you a Formation Engine flush—a tactical rhythm that moves you from the exhaustion of comparison back to the quiet, untouchable authority of shalom. ## **The Observation** He was a corporate refugee. Fifteen years in financial services, and he had quietly watched a colleague take his workshop materials, copy the handouts, and take the promotion. He possessed better connections and knew the rules of the toxic leadership game better than he understood sacred creation. The system rewarded the mimic while the creator bled. He told me he was not bitter. He was simply "discerning." Then I asked him one question: _"When did you last pray for the person who took your credit?"_ The silence that followed was not awkward. It was diagnostic. His inner architecture was running a comparison loop so deep it had become his operating system. He had been seduced by the dangerous currency of righteous grievance. ## **The Assessment** The theft was real. The injustice was factual. But the glitch was his fuel source. When your inner architecture is powered by comparison and grievance, the Corporate OS locks you into a permanent threat response. Your amygdala reads every competitor as a predator. You cannot think clearly. You cannot lead generously. You cannot hear the Spirit above the noise of the scoreboard. Staying angry feels like justice, but biologically, it is a structural failure. It is a biological consequence of running a Kingdom soul on a Corporate OS. You cannot defeat an extraction economy using its own tools; it extracts from you until you break. ## **The Kingdom Intel** David understood the plunderers. In First Samuel 30, his men called the parasites who stayed behind "wicked and worthless fellows." They wanted the spoils without the scars. David knew that. He shared anyway. Not because he was naive, but because his Formation Engine was calibrated to a different frequency entirely. At the precise intersection of neuroscience and scripture, we find this: a regulated nervous system and a surrendered will produce the same fruit. Generosity. Clarity. Quiet authority. When David chose to share, he was not ignoring the data or enabling the theft. He was operating from a different OS—one where worth is not earned through performance, and blessing is not allocated according to merit. ## **The Tactical Pivot** This week, identify the person whose success or mimicry has triggered your comparison loop. Do not post about them. Do not analyze them. Stop enabling the predators in the name of being nice, but reclaim your biological agency. Pray the WFP Prayer over them specifically: * **W** isdom to see what your heart cannot yet discern. * **F** avour for them in the right moments. * **P** rotection for both of you from pride dressed as partnership. Do this once, out loud. Then log one honest answer in your _What's Better Today?_ journal: did your inner architecture shift, even fractionally? That fractional shift is the Formation Engine beginning to flush. KFA out. * * * ## **The Research Foundation and FAQs** **Research Foundation** The comparison loop described here is not metaphorical. It is a documented physiological response. When a leader perceives a social threat—such as a colleague receiving recognition they believe they deserve—the brain's threat detection system activates identically to a physical danger response. The prefrontal cortex goes partially offline. Decision quality drops. Emotional reactivity spikes. The executive who learns to regulate this response, through structured formation rather than willpower, demonstrates measurably higher resilience. The WFP Prayer functions as a neurological pattern interrupt before the threat loop can fully engage. ## **Frequently Asked Questions** ** _Why does a toxic workplace reward bad behaviour?_ ** The corporate operating system prioritises short-term extraction and mimicry over sustainable cultivation. It is an engine built for leverage, not love. Surviving it requires stepping entirely outside its metric of success. **_How do I know if my ambition is Kingdom-driven or ego-driven?_ ** The diagnostic is not the goal; it is the fuel source. Kingdom ambition can sit quietly when someone else receives what you wanted. Ego-driven ambition, running on the Corporate OS, cannot tolerate being overlooked and eventually reframes bitterness as "discernment." If your vision requires someone else's failure to remain meaningful, your Formation Engine is misfiring. **_What is the difference between healthy discernment and bitterness in leadership?_** Discernment serves the mission and releases the outcome. Bitterness serves the wound and has already decided the answer based on past pain. The structural difference is your nervous system state. You cannot accurately hear the Holy Spirit's discernment from inside an amygdala hijack. Regulation comes first. Always. **JOHN MICHAEL** | THE KFA Kingdom Formation Architect Broadcasting from Singapore. 🇸🇬 Compassion not comparison. Collaboration not competition. **This Field Guide is provided free of charge.
