The Handmaiden is based on Fingersmith but there is a lot more plot in Fingersmith than they could fit in the movie. Though the thing is that Fingersmith is itself also a riff on the plot of a Victorian novel.

😱 what if when I finally get to adapt Fingersmith into a comic, what if I set it in the present? Or the 90's!!

i was the other way around - saw fingersmith before the handmaiden (and hadn’t read the novel) and remember being utterly floored by the twist

I’ve already recommended a bunch of these Korean bangers including several directed by Bong Joon Ho and Park Chan Wook and frankly I can’t recommend them too much: The Handmaiden is Park Chan Wook’s darkly comic adaptation of Sarah Waters’ novel Fingersmith

I think some people are unwilling to hand it to the straight guy director, which I get — I found Oldboy pretty repellent, gender-wise — but like. It’s based on Fingersmith!

I'm currently reading The Original by Nell Stevens which is set in the Victorian era and is about a young girl with a talent for copying paintings. As the cover blurbs indicate, it has echoes of Janey Eyre and Fingersmith by Sarah Waters. Below are five more fiction titles that feature art

I love Sarah Waters' way to write the last third of the book with such grit and texture. It's like I'm right there with the main characters living those events with them. Def gonna grab myself a copy of either Fingersmith or Tipping The Velvet, next

Fingersmith - Breathe Me

My Monday reading: Fingersmith, by Sarah Waters.
As the autumn equinox begins tomorrow, I’ve curated a seasonal reading list of gothic style/dark academia, atmospheric books for myself, will share in case anyone else is after inspo.
Note: ALL these will be borrowed from the library, this isn’t a buy list 🖤
(currently reading Murderland, it’s 👌)

It's a Castle Rock type thing where they're all in the same village.
I think he's supposed to be the Fingersmith (the Cyril Cusack character)

It's basically a Castle Rock thing, the fingersmith, Lamb to the Slaughter Susan George, the Landlady all living in same town. I would say the cast is overqualified but then the original series had the biggest gets in the naffest eps.

The Handmaiden (2016) is Fingersmith, but better. This version brings to mind "The Cook, the Thief, His Wife, and Her Lover" actually. #MovieReview #FilmSky

A ★★★★½ review of The Handmaiden (2016)
It's Fingersmith, but better. It had some scenes that were a bit more graphic than strictly necessary, but otherwise it's great. Actually, it's reminiscent of "The Cook, The Thief, His Wife, and Her L...

Book five - Fingersmith by Sarah Waters. This one was a slog of a read due to low reading mojo, but wow I'm glad I held onto it and finished it. Twisty, Dickensian, sapphic story that was probably one of the first few queer books on my shelves!
