Here’s one of a pair of beautiful but battered Ruddy Daggerwing #butterflies (Marpesia petreus) that were feasting today on the nectar of the Florida Shrub Thoroughwort (Eupatorium villosum) in #MyGarden. This one had lost its “daggers.” 🌱 #FlowerReport #BloomScrolling #Flowers #FloridaNativePlant

#Honeybees were all over the blooms on this #FloridaNativePlant milkweed today. It’s white swamp #milkweed - Asclepius perennis. Before long the plants will be defoliated by Monarch #butterfly caterpillars. 🌱 #Plants #Flowers #FlowerReport #BloomScrolling #MyGarden

Brassavola nodosa #orchid blooming today in #MyGarden. The flowers emit an extremely strong, sweet fragrance at night. This one is growing on a small #FloridaNativePlant Joewood tree (Jacquinia keyensis). 🌱 #Plants #Flowers #FlowerReport #BloomScrolling #MyGarden #Orchids

The #Atala #butterflies (Eumaeus atala) have been busy! These pupae are hanging from its only host plant, the #FloridaNativePlant #coontie (Zamia integrifolia), the only native #cycad in the continental US. Atalas were once thought to be extinct. 🌱 #Plants #Insects #Butterfly #MyGarden

Multiple #Atala #butterflies (Eumaeus atala) emerging today from their chrysalises hanging from its only host plant, the #FloridaNativePlant #coontie (Zamia integrifolia), the only native #cycad in the continental US. Atalas were once thought to be extinct. 🌱 #Plants #Insects #Butterfly #MyGarden

Native milkweed (Asclepius perennis) blooming this morning in #MyGarden. Monarch #Butterfly caterpillars will soon completely defoliate these plants, then the leaves will grow back again and the cycle will repeat. 🌱 #Plants #Flowers #FlowerReport #BloomScrolling #FloridaNativePlant #Butterflies

This #FloridaNativePlant, swamp milkweed (Asclepius perennis) is doing well in #MyGarden. I partially buried a big watertight glazed clay pot with no drainage hole, and filled it with organic matter and several of these #plants. They love it! 🌱 #Flowers #FlowerReport #BloomScrolling #ButterflyPlants

I was excited to find this crop of #acorns on our young #FloridaNativePlant #LaurelOak (Quercus laurifolia) “planted” by a squirrel. We have watched the tree grow for years and now the descendants of that first squirrel will be able to live off the nuts. #CircleOfLife 🌱 #Trees #OakTrees #MyGarden
