“Roseate Spoonbill in Flight”

Low light + Roseate Spoonbill = Pure magic. I almost didn't take this shot because the sun was so low, but the backlighting saved the day. #BirdsInFlight #DingDarlingNWR #RoseateSpoonbill #Photography

"Rising"

This is a Tricolored Heron at Ding Darling NWR in #Florida shortly after sunrise. A nice calm morning created a beautiful #reflection on takeoff for this bird. #BirdsInFlight #TricoloredHeron #DingDarlingNWR #Photography

One for #FlyDayFriday

This #fly with quite striking markings recently visited our moth light.

From the genus Poecilohetaerus, possibly P. aquilus as there looks to be a pale fawn stripe on its back.
One of the Lauxaniidae

Long body, long legs, long mouth.

So that's just what they'll do....🎶

Eugnoriste sp. (a dark-winged fungus gnat; Sciaridae).

Collected from a Lactuca (Blue Lettuce) flower. Manitoba, Canada.

Female Tachina lurida - S. Cambs 10/4/26.
I spot a few of this tachinid fly at the edge of Gamlingay Wood LNR about 0.5km from my home. This is my 1st garden record.
Widespread, but rather local in central and southern england, it's an endoparasite of noctuid moths.

The fly on the left is one of two species of stalk-eyed flies in North America.

They do not see eye to eye with their more recognizable relatives from around the world.
