#FolkStories
I feel like this is why there are so many folkstories of creatures that try to wear the skin of others to draw attention to themselves.

Feels ironic that very often we derive stories of monsters from the things humans do.

Here’s another awesome Palestinian folktale with just about the best ending ever. The European folkstories I was raised on Do Not have endings this feminist and satisfying!! (trying to avoid spoilers, it’s quick, go read it) ☺️
Since it came up in the AMA, here's my favourite Palestinian folktale. It's called The Lentil. Audiences of all ages really enjoy this one. Although I find children are far more likely to be annoyed with that stubborn-- well, you'll see.

Due to old folkstories of maneating aranea, these arachne have found themself in quite a bind if mingling among common folk. Either show their arachnid appearance in the open and earn immediate mistrust, or hide their true form and be later accused of duplicidy if found out.

soonshin and bari were actually not supposed to be their names. i designed them and their stories before they had names and instead gave them generic codenames for the time being. i used real korean figures and folkstories that guided their main inspirations. (5/14)

folkstories and fairytales arent JUST public domain, they are by the nature of their existence shared public storytelling that is endlessly iterative with each retelling. people can and should keep making new snow whites and cinderellas and sleeping beauties. forever. its canon!
anyway. pmo.

Nights Master by Tanith Lee is the fantasy book I fight for.

No worldbuilding fluff but a rich vista of demons and curses, talismans, villains to heroes and back to villains again. Grim, horny, folkstories so cement I was waiting for Wishbone to pop up and narrate. Top tier

I really love that the games are making a gimmick of taking real urban legends and mixing them up, instead of inventing monsters and curses like a lot of Jhorror does.

If anyone didn't know, the nine "Seven Mysteries of Honjo" are all real folkstories.

Cool. So it's not my field but the connection between women's depictions in literature/folkstories and "reality" is always a guess of kinds when you don't have more solid evidence about everyday things. 1/
