Online research & comprehension aren't the same as offline reading! Leu & Forzani (2012) emphasize that locating, evaluating, synthesizing, and communicating info online require entirely new cognitive skills. 🔍🌐 #edu800fall26 #Leu

414. Amer (2009), directed by Hélène Cattet and Bruno Forzani, first time viewing

Much like Reflection in a Dead Diamond, this reduces the giallo movie to its barest essentials and expresses all that visually and obliquely. Pretty neat, if also pretty slow.

As technologies rapidly evolve from Web 2.0 to 4.0 & beyond, Leu & Forzani (2012) remind us that "new literacies" aren't static; they constantly change as new tools emerge. How do we prepare students for moving targets? 🌐⚡ #edu800fall26 #Leu

If technology constantly shifts, how we teach reading must shift too. Leu & Forzani (2012) urge us to focus on the dynamic skills students need to navigate an ever-evolving web, not just static reading strategies. 📲💻 #edu800fall26 #Leu

Reading online isn’t the same as reading a textbook. #Leu & Forzani describe how online reading means searching, evaluating sources, synthesizing across sites, and then communicating what you learned. That’s a lot more than decoding words on a page. #Literacy #InfoLit

A tension #Leu & Forzani raise: if literacy keeps changing, how do schools and standardized tests keep up? Most assessments still measure offline reading. Feels even more urgent now with AI search in the mix. #EdResearch #Assessment #EDU800 #CMU

#Leu & Forzani make a point I love: literacy is “deictic.” Its meaning keeps shifting as technology changes. The ∞ in the title says it all. We’re never going to reach a finished version of what it means to be literate. #NewLiteracies #EdTech

Visually so interesting, also loved the idea - wasn't really in the mood for the disjointed vignette way of telling the story. That's very likely on me.

1. HER PRIVATE HELL (Nicolas Winding Refn)

Maybe this is a cheat since their work is pastiche / homage but I think a contemporary Suspiria-like experience might be the works of Cattet & Forzani. I like Let the Corpses Tan and Reflections in a Dead Diamond. Stylish visuals, banging soundtracks, swinging Euro vibes

Belgian giallo is its own strange beast, and "The Strange Color of Your Body's Tears" commits to the genre's visual logic harder than almost anything Italy ever produced. Every corridor in this apartment building feels like it's hiding a second corridor behind it, and Hélène Cattet and Bruno Forzani

ENYS MEN was my favorite film of 2023, this is more of a mixed bag. Whether you’re Jenkin or Cattet/Forzani, you’re obv coming from a place of style over substance (or perhaps style = substance) so it’s best to go lighter on plot and lean more heavily into the abstract. Way too much plot here

I've also co-edited five books, including ones on Peter Strickland, Cattet + Forzani, and this nice big fat beautiful coffee table book on Lewis Carroll's Alice in Wonderland on film for Thames+Hudson

We all like to have fun on here, but please don’t forget that your 🫵 posts will decide the outcome of the 2026 US midterm elections

Amer isn't really a horror film in any conventional sense. Cattet and Forzani built it from pure sensation, sound design, and texture. The narrative is almost incidental. What you feel watching it is more like a memory of fear than fear itself
