I'm saying this with love and grace to all, but with a bit of experience-- a lack of richer literacy plagues most of the world, but it especially plagues philosophy, economics, and engineering spaces, to the point of anti-literary understandings.
Someone should write a monograph about Thiel and Musk's clear love of and total incapacity to understand science fiction.

When I hear someone say they don’t plan to vote, it seriously makes me question what kind of person they are.
Black folks were forced to pay poll taxes, pass literacy tests, livelihoods and lives just to exercise their right to vote. Eat or vote because you can’t do both. And they still showed up.

Right, at some level the common "media literacy" refrain is like saying that if you identify positively with a non-Christian liberal character in some fundie novel then you lack media literacy
