I've been working on building a FreeBSD "distro" "from scratch" - an appliance oriented operating system builder.
Think like FreeNAS/TrueNAS Core or pfsense/OPNsense type stuff. But, more generic and universal.
I just had the first successful boot on hardware!

For the past 10+ years I've been using ZFS (FreeNAS/TrueNAS). For some reason, I only recently started using snapshots…THEY ARE AMAZING. So this is your reminder that if you're using ZFS, use snapshots.

If you're just running a Plex server you could pretty easily convert the device to a mainline Linux distro like debian without much fuss, or just install like freeNAS or some such server OS.

I lost my boot ssd on my truenas, I have a backup of the config, the encrypted password and the encrypted pool.
How can I recover the content? Any idea/pointer?
