The SocDems’ Jennifer Whitmore has broken down in tears during a Dáil debate about widening access to abortion in Ireland.

TDs will vote this evening on removing the 72-hour waiting period for abortion within 12 weeks, and removing the 28-day limit applying to cases of fatal foetal abnormalities.

TDs need to vote with their constituents in this matter. We did not vote for 3 day waiting periods, for heartbroken parents to leave the country to access healthcare elsewhere. We voted for Repeal for everyone that needed access to abortion healthcare. #FreeSafeLegalLocal #Speirgorm #Speirghorm

Yesterday afternoon we learned that the Health (Abolition of Three Day Wait Rule) (Amendment) Bill 2026 will be introduced in the Dáil this Tuesday, June 16, 2026 by Sinn Fein.
Now is the time to contact your TDs and ask them to support this bill.
