Sabines Gull in front of the house, looking comically small next to a GBBG.

The #GooleFields gull flocks produced this ad Baltic type today, mahogany-hued and attenuated with primary moult up to P3 whilst most graellsii were around P7. Not bad but not ideal. Also 15 YLGs, the 3+Casps & a GBBG amongst 500+ LBBGs #lovegulls #yorkshirebirding #ukbirding @tmbirding.bsky.social

As others have said GBBG, just look at the chunky bill, a good ID feature

What a find we had yesterday, the Hare & Hounds in Withington a proper village pub between Telford & Shrewsbury.
HPA, Enville, Butty & Ludlow Stairway on tap plus at least 15 empties from various breweries outside.
Not in the GBBG but should be as it's one of the best we've found in a long while.

After this mornings rain, a sunny evening. With the sun now in the west, the birds were easier to see at Greatstone. 4 GBBG stood out amongst the BHG and fewer Herring Gulls. Ringed Plover, at least 80, were the most numerous wader followed by Oystercatchers further out towards the receding tide

Today's highlights included incoming Whimbrel, another juv YLG on the Wyre, and a GBBG family eating a shark alive (looks like a Starry Smooth-hound 🦈) #lancsbirding #ukbirding

Today's #BirdOfTheDay is going back to basics with a theme of #Gulls, any Gull will do. I was on a Gull kick last week, so had to dig into my archives to get this #GreaterBlackBackedGull from Howth, Ireland. The GBBG is quite a massive bird!

Had to go to cornwall today, so stopped by at Stithians Reservoir and this glossy ibis was showing pretty well!
Not much else although briefly saw the white stork on the opposite side of the road whilst driving (no way to view), & a few buzzards, GBBG, grey heron etc..

Great Skua : Still offshore at Browhouses. Moving around occasionally. 1230+ Currently sat
opposite cottages but on English side sandbank. Attended by GBBG. Seems to be
hanging around to steal what seafood the GBBG's find to eat. Avocet still
& all ... see Blog.

I saw a similar scenario with a GBBG & a Shag at Torness sev yrs ago.
The shag had caught a fish that it couldnt swallow or even get rid of, so much so it couldnt dive. The gull seeing this then proceeded to kill the shag over sev mins, very grissly

No answers yet?

Is GBBG × LBBG a possibility?

Would welcome some help with this gull seen at Whittle Dene this evening. At first I thought GBBG but on further inspection was too small (slightly smaller than Herring), yellow/orange legs, more delicate bill and noticeably long wings in flight. #NEBirding

Surprisingly little mention of the effect of domestic waste landfill site closures in the report. In Herts, total closures (?) have resulted in GBBG going from a common winterer to bordering on a county rarity in a few short years (These GBBGs were Norwegian mainly).

I think it is a really clapped out 2CY GBBG
