Gull ringing team at Walney last week. Over 100 HG, LBBG, and GBBG chicks ringed in under 3 hours and good productivity this year it seems. GBBG chicks are just huge!

Top tussle today - GBBG winning the long battle by lifting the Cormorant + fish clear out of the water and Cormorant so hacked off it chased the GBBG half a mile downriver. #UKBirding

We're getting some cracking photo submissions to the Gulls Eating Stuff project! Here are a few showing gulls predating a coot chick, a vole, a mole (!) and a GBBG that has just killed an adult moorhen. Keep 'em coming! Submit your photos of gulls eating stuff to citsci.org/projects/gul....

What a double whammy! And less than 40 gulls on the Axe Estuary in total! 1st summer Caspian and 2nd winter Yellow-legged Gulls, both in shot here and still present as I type. The Casp is behind the young GBBG and the YLG is front left #ukbirding

There's consequences to having GBBG on the river- but hats off to this Shelduck who has successfully defended seven chicks for a week without loss despite daily check ups from the beast. #BirdArt

GBBG looking pleasingly like a Lammergeier whilst chugging a flattie yesterday afternoon.

An astounding 10,330 LBBGs roosted at The Mere, #Ellesmere this evening. That's almost double the international importance threshold. Does anywhere get more LBBGs? Also 2cy #CaspianGull, 6 YLGs & ad GBBG #ukbirding

Unusual behaviour on the lagoon. Disturbance from gbbg pushed many Sandwich terns onto common tern islands... with over 400 Sandwich there are still plenty to settle but interactions are interesting! #WildBrownsea @dorsetwildlife.bsky.social @dorsetbirdclub.bsky.social @harbourbirds.bsky.social

1st chiffchaff of the year singing away right next to me at Hummersea today. Lovely to hear. Song thrush in fine voice too. Also GBBG, plus strikingly marked stonechat. @teesbirds.bsky.social @nybirdnews.bsky.social
