We built this game trailer in Unreal Engine 5.4 with a small team and a tight schedule. I handled all the rendering locally using Lumen, which saved us a ton of time and budget. Most updates were turned around the same day. Some, within 30 minutes. The director wanted to rack focus to Ra in this shot, but the depth of field made it feel like a miniature. So I went another route. Took a note from Roger Deakins and added a soft blur around the edges in comp. It kept the eye on Ra without breaking the shot. Sometimes the original note isn’t the answer. But the problem it points to still needs solving.
