Game theory says: betray. People often don't. In 1950, two colleagues playing the first prisoner's dilemma both cooperated in 60 of 100 games. On the TV show Golden Balls, with real money at stake, 52.8% of 574 finalists chose “Split”. #gametheory #economics

I tried to write up a big fan theory about Deltarune that I have had for a long time. Also part of it is from a theory I just saw. Just a small part.

Whatever the other player does, betraying pays more. So both betray, and both end up worse off than they could have been together. Part 4 of our game theory series: the prisoner's dilemma.

The Prisoner's Dilemma: When Everyone Acts Sensibly and Both Lose
Two mathematicians invented a game in which logic leads to a worse outcome for everyone. Its very first players kept breaking that logic. Part 4 of our game theory series: on betrayal, trust and a TV show played for thousands of pounds.

Minimax in one sentence: judge each move by your opponent’s best reply, not by your hopes. Von Neumann proved the idea in 1928; Shannon applied it to chess in 1950: fermatslibrary.com/s/programming-a-computer-for-playing-chess

Judge a move not by the reply you hope for, but by your opponent's best reply. That is how von Neumann reasoned in 1928, and how chess and checkers programs still think. Part 3 of our game theory series.

Minimax: How an Opponent Who Wishes You the Worst Thinks
Turing worked out chess moves with a pencil, von Neumann proved a theorem, and the MindLounge checkers bot still thinks the same way. Part 3 of our game theory series: on the caution that wins games.

You'd need a gametheory Republican in the right place to convince the Senate to write & take up the bill.

I feel like that's a dying breed from peeling away from the party/retirement. There don't seem to be many McConnell types, and McConnell himself is barely there when there.
