The garlic mustard plant which grows wild in most hedgerows, can be picked on the root is a good substitute for horseradish. I’ve pictured the plant and flower for reference purposes #garlicmustard #spring

We had herbs, so things wouldn't have been totally bland, but yeah none of the fun spices. Maybe things like garlicmustard and some of the spicier herb seeds. I'm not sure when true mustard split from the brassica common ancestor

Tis the season for garlic mustard—this edible weed is highly invasive and can badly fuck with the local ecosystem, so if you’re in North America, pull up as much as you can now before it goes to flower!

Thanks to the excellent work of Corinna (PhD student) and Julia (technician) we currently have a huge colony of Vanessa cardui caterpillars (Distelfalter) and a perfect set of #GarlicMustard plants for our upcoming feeding trials comparing tastiness of 80 worldwide populations. So cool to see this!

Look zonder look en daslook groeien naast elkaar in het park, maar familie is het niet.

(Garlic mustard and wild garlic grow side by side in the park, but they are not related.)

I always feel better after time in the #woods. Fresh air and little green treasures like this garlic mustard scattered across the forest floor feel like a gift. It energized me to get creative with my art in appreciation. #foragingfinds #foraging #natureartist #garlicmustard #ecoartist

#GarlicMustard or Jack-by-the hedge- edible wildflower. Lanarkshire, Scotland. Mum was intrigued by it, love showing her nature - she taught me to love everything & become who I am. 💚

I generally try to abide by ahimsa principles, though, in the case of invasive plants, I always choose violence

Do you have invasive garlic mustard in your woodland? Pull, mow, or cut garlic mustard plants in early spring after they flower and before they produce seeds.

Two white flower finds new to me today, hopefully correctly identified as Shepherd's-Needle (Scandix pecten-veneris) on the left and Garlic Mustard, also known as 'Jack-by-the-hedge' on the right; growing next to each other in #WandleburyWoods #Shepherds-Needle #GarlicMustard

Reminder that garlic mustard is edible and beneficial (both raw and cooked), and very easy to ID!

💚 rich in vitamins
💚 aids digestion
💚 antimicrobial
💚 supports immune system
💚 possibly anti-cancer

I suggest cooking and seasoning because I personally think it tastes bad.

#GarlicMustard season is coming to an end. Hit it hard before they flower, pulling the roots. But it is time to start setting our sights higher.

#BurningBush Euonymus alatus is taking over every conservation area in the Boston metro-west that isn't actively managed. Acres of monoculture. #invasive

Invasive garlic mustard spreads fast. One plant can produce up to 8,000 seeds. Check wooded areas and pull, mow, or cut stalks after they flower and before they produce seeds
- Southern Illinois: Flowers late-March
- Northern Illinois: Flowers mid-April
