Racoons live short brutal lives and they die in anonymity. Jimothy has that on hard mode, his deformity that is likely causing him a lot of pain and making him unable to react and escape as fast as others without his gentic issues.

As someone with a rare gentic skeletal dysplasia, I look at my boy Jimothy, and I know he is dealing with constant chronic pain like I am. I look at that raccoon, and I see myself represented in the animal kingdom. Solidarity, my raccoon brother.

There is an arguement though that there is a direct line from teaching genetics this way, to believing all sorts of wrong things about genetics, such as a belief in gentic determinism, or that there are "genes for" more societally important things such as intelegence, sexuality, race, etc.

I don't like the term "agentic" because the leading "a-" makes it sound like a negation. Like some people are "gentic" (dressed like a close-up magician in fedora and ascot) and some people aren't ("agentic")

Very happy to announce that our Exchangeable Tagging System (ExTaSy) is on bioRxiv: doi.org/10.64898/202.... With ExTaSy you can tag #Drosophila genes endogenously and exchange the tag subsequently through fly crosses. Also, the gentic marker is removable, allowing for minimal locus modification.
