CVE-2026-77387 - geopy: Regular Expression Denial of Service (ReDoS) in geopy.Point
geopy is a geocoding library for Python. Prior to 2.5.0, geopy.Point and Point.from_string() can spend excessive CPU time due to inefficient regular-expression behavior when an application passes a long malformed coordinate string without the 256-character input limit used by the fix. Geocoder reverse methods also reach the vulnerable parsing path …

I haven't used the #qgis Locator bar much so far (except to access the Nominatim Geocoder every once in a while). While dabbling with UI ideas, I ended up throwing it into the upper right corner where - I think - it stands out a bit more than in the bottom […]

We're super excited to have Geocodio returning as a sponsor this year! Geocodio: the delightfully boring geocoder. They've spent the last decade+ quietly processing billions of locations, wrangling 300+ million addresses, and building the geocoding service you always wanted. buff.ly/iJPcXRK

Nice applied-data workshop. For address lists, the most reusable output is often not just points on a map but a table with geocoder used, match score, match type and review flags.

📦 cboxdk/tax-resolver v1.1.0

Pure address→jurisdiction resolver over the Cbox Tax boundary dataset. No framework, no I/O, no geocoder — the shared brain the register verifies with and the tax engines resolve with.

On my long list of half-finished products is an open address normalized and geocoder that takes a lot of the pain out of this for Canadian addresses and locations. Don’t have time right now to finish this off, aiming for later in fall.

tiny-geocoder 0.0.2 released https://www.npmjs.com/package/tiny-geocoder

i think no-one uses it except me but you should all use it. it's great

new in 0.0.2:

- queries now ignore accents, for my definition of accents, so you can search for "Łódź" without doing keyboard gymnastics
- switched […]

in the course of doing this work I learned that overture still classifies individual galleries at sfo museum as "museums" / and that there is a museum in minneapolis called the "museum louvre it or leave it" – millsfield.sfomuseum.org/blog/2026/09...
Making the SFO Museum geocoder less Who's On First specific, reusable JavaScript components and experimental vector search
The hope is that this change will make it easier to use the geocoder tool for other data sources without the need to maintain a separate lookup tables of string-to-numeric identifiers. We like using W...

Exciting news for data nerds! The PostGIS Tiger Geocoder 2025.2 just dropped. If you're still on PostGIS 3.6 you’re in luck but say goodbye in 3.7. Check it out on OSGeo Gitea if you haven't already. Thanks Regina Obe for keeping us on our toes!

Maybe because my geocoder hasn’t gotten to their address yet, but it may also be that their corporate registration claims e.g. a lawyer’s office as their “principal place of business.” Many, many corporations do that.

postgis_tiger_geocoder 2025.2 shipped on August 23, the second release since it split out of PostGIS core. It now requires PostgreSQL 16 or later and lives in its own repo.
PostGIS 3.6 is the last series to bundle it. 3.7 will ship without it.
