Another one of my favorite Tapir Valley amphibians, the Yellow-flecked Glassfrog (Sachatamia albomaculata). These frogs are found directly above moving water where they call and lay their eggs. Once the eggs are mature, the tadpoles drop into the water.

Had glassfrog tadpoles come out of the water the last couple days. They are tiniest little guy. Very cool to be one of like maybe 3 people in the US breeding these guys in captivity.

🐸 A new species of glassfrog, Vitreorana micaelae, has been described from Central Brazil. Only the second glassfrog known to be endemic to the Cerrado biome, it has been found living in humid gallery forests.

Max size males 29 mm (~1.1"), females 32 mm (~1.25").

Found in bushes and trees along forest streams in Honduras, Costa Rica, Panama, Colombia and Ecuador.

Considered Least Concern by the IUCN.

The leaf-dwelling glassfrog Hyalinobatrachium (“Centrolenella”) fleischmanni forages and breeds on vegetation at night along forested streams (occurring from southern Mexico to northwestern South America) (33–36). During the day, Hyalinobatrachium frogs sleep upside down on broadleaf vegetation, where a combination of green leaflike dorsal coloration and transparency could provide camouflage on translucent leaves (17–38) (fig.
