For years, MAGAs have attacked Gotion for its plans to build an EV battery facility in MI. Mike Rogers has accused them of being “linked to slave labor in mainland China.” Due to Michigan’s lack of disclosure rules, it’s impossible to know how much Gotion contributed to Michigan officeholders.

Slate Auto lost the $7.5k federal credit, but without the trade provisions attached to it, they were also able to switch to much cheaper Chinese LFP batteries. It's not a wash, but *if* Slate survives it'll probably be as a more efficient and competitive company.
