#Grammarly
I have been using grammarly a lot but the annoyance that it has to sell its pro version after every sentence is doing my head in.
Any alternatives out there that do the same job well but less annoying!

The way that my grammarly plug in made me capitalise "No Nut November" on desktop. It was like "put RESPECT on this occasion"

Didn’t grammarly go all slop a while back?

Instead, learn the rules as much as you can, and if spell check in Word or Grammarly tells you something you know is wrong, IGNORE IT. Check a pre-2022 writing or grammar guide, or ask an expert. AI is breaking a lot of things, include grammar and spell check in writing software. I HATE IT HERE.

I wish I would have taken a screen shot, but I once saw the grammarly AI rate the Apostles Creed as like 75% AI
On FB there’s been this ad lately for a service that offers to let pastors use AI to evaluate their sermons.

One pastor, naturally enough, submitted the Sermon On The Mount.

It got 5.3/10.

Actually, that pretty much describes 90% of everything AI out there (like when Grammarly stopped being a grammar checker and became an AI assistant)

I need a a 2028 democratic primary footrace to have the most hardcore AI policy. I want candidates saying crazy stuff they'll eventually have to apologize for. I want Beshear saying we need to turn the data centers into trampoline gyms. I want anonymous leaks about Josh Shapiro using Grammarly.
The blue wave ushering Democrats back into the majority on Capitol Hill is poised to put numerous high-profile critics of the tech industry in office, giving them powerful perches to raise pressure on the booming artificial intelligence sector and its Republican allies.

Appreciate this take. I also think there’s a difference between a digital tool that GENERATES text, like LLMs, and a tool embedded in word-processors like Grammarly, which only identifies problems with spelling and grammar.

One of the issues on the ballot this year that the media doesn't want to talk about is Enshittification -- corporations purposely make their products worse. Sometimes they even charge us more as they do it.
I'm currently experiencing Enshittification with Grammarly, which refuses to open with Word.

A ton of spellcheckers also throw up really weird suggestions. I stopped using Grammarly for this reason.
November 7, 2026 at 3:01 PM
You are completely right. It is also why I am disappointed that Grammarly is increasingly leaning toward using AI as a tool.

Okay, you made me curious so I had to look into it, lol. Grammarly, GPTZero, and Pangram all say they're trained on human-written text and AI-generated text.

I also learned English as a second language and it took me a lot of time to feel confident in my writing and resorted to tools like Grammarly a lot. But I feel like in this day and age, making some grammatical mistakes is keeping some humanity in our writing, and I celebrate that.
