Old dvds are big again. I volunteer for a library supporting non-profit. Used Media (aka CDs, audio books, DVDs, some blu-rays) are hot again. 20 something’s figured out that streaming everything means you own none of it, at great expense. Better to buy a movie you own than renting one at 3X.

Vierapril Day 13: Guide

At the tender age of ten, a new roommate, a possible friendship, and Orion relies on his new cohort to show him around.

(Heads up, this got away from me! Not such Drabble anymore. XD More in the thread!)

1/2

#ffxivwrites #ffxivfic #vierapril #viera #starseeker
Guide "I can show you around. Wanna see where everything is?" Marco bounced a handball off the stone wall and floor, catching it and throwing it again in a quick rhythm with a high snap that was making Orion wince slightly. 'The prefect showed us around earlier," the viera boy leaned against the bunk, his ears tucked back. The hyur boy seemed relatively friendly, for all that he had to give up the other spot in his room to the new kid. "But he only showed you the Studium, yeah?" Marco caught the ball and shoved it in a well-worn pouch at his waist, tightening it with a practiced pull of string. His grin promised hijinks, eyes sparkling with possibility as he cocked his head. "C'mon. I'll show you where we hang out, our ball field, the best place to go get snacks... And if you haven't got a card yet for the Noumenon we can start there, 'cause it's close. We'll go sign you up." Ori perked up at the mention of the library... and at the possibility of snacks, to be perfectly honest. "I... I'd like that, actually. I've heard lots of stories about the Noumenon." "I bet. It's real big. C'mon let's go." Marco motioned for the other boy to follow him, leading him out from the dormitory into the midday sun, walking side by side with his new roommate and pointing out landmarks as they walked along. No one paid the boys any mind as they chatted and laughed, nor noticed how the young viera slowly brightened, his ears straightening over time until the two walked up to the doors of the great library and Marco pushed them wide, motioning for Orion to proceed him inside. "Oh..." Ori's voice, loud only seconds before, was suddenly hushed, caught in his throat in awe at the stacks and stacks of books. Of course, he'd been inside large libraries before; the Great Gubal had been across town back home. Sure, one had to had special dispensation to go further than the first few rooms, but he'd been inside with his mother more often than many of the other kids of the Colony. Still, the open plan of the Noumenon mixed with sheer awe in the presence of such gathered knowledge had a huge impact. "Over here, this way." Marco tugged his compatriot by the tunic, boldly striding up to the main desk and the librarian sitting next to an oddly-dressed mammet standing on a chair. "My friend here needs to put his name down for access. He's new to the Studium, just back from the Colony." Startled by his roommate's boldness, Ori winced, attempting an awkward smile as he raised a hand. "H-hello." "Can I have your name, scholar?" The librarian arched an eyebrow, pulling over a thick tome and flipping through its pages, very obviously biting back a humored grin. "Arianelle. Orion Arianelle," he said, his tone and cadence making it sound like he'd been saying it over and over by rote, which he felt he had been, for days and days, ever since they'd left home. "Ah, yes. Here," the librarian underlined something with his finger, glancing up at the youth. He reached under the desk, coming up with a small rectangle that he slid across the surface to Orion. "Access card. Not just for the Noumenon but for certain areas of town restricted by the Studium and the Forum. Unlikely that you'll have to worry about much more for some time, but you'll always need it here. Got a few things to go over, and then you'll sign a paper to attest you've understood the rules."

Harvesting Steam reviews is so stressful for any #indiedev but similarly, they can also be a great source of comfort or humour. Every now and again (more often than I deserve) I get some real belters! 😆🥰

(Piczle World of Puzzles s.team/a/2174300)
A positive Steam review for Piczle World of Puzzles that reads: The world may be about to end, so you're probably concerned about your nonogram puzzle game collection, and rightfully so. There they are, scattered throughout your Steam library, maybe in different categories, perhaps some even have a desktop shortcut. But still. Don't you just wish, deep down, that there could just be one big nonogram game that had everything in one place? And that the world doesn't end, of course. Several of us are hoping for that as well. Here to grant your wish is Piczle World of Puzzles, the ultimate collection of Score Studios games, all in one place! Score, of course is famous for their nonogram style games such as Piczle Cross, Piczle Cells, Piczle Lines, and Piczle Global Thermonuclear War. You may have played some of these games already, but since they are mostly DLC for this free game that already has a generous amount of puzzles, you don't need to buy them again. But you could, you know. Just to have them. Or to quote Non Ishida, the inventor of nonograms, "ただの数字の集まりです". I don't read Japanese, but I bet it's profound. Just like you. Peace.

Also Great Big Sea!

I thought I had that but it might be on my alt itunes library that I haven’t merged yet because every time I tried to sync itunes it would ruin everything and delete all the contents of playlists. Which is why Spotify being not good enough to switch was a problem.

Although some of the study sessions were grueling, I still remember with great fondness sitting at one of the desks on the fifth floor of my college's big library tower, everything quiet and smelling of old books, watching the sun go down over the hills in the west.

hello, I have for you today the finest, artisinal catboy pornography.

this fic has everything: cock cages! praise kink! two boys hopelessly in love! some previews below with art by the lovely @emptycanvas.bsky.social!

read the whole fic here: chastity.txt on ao3
[ #ffxivfic | #wolgraha ]
Fanfic screenshot: chastity.txt, by meowwdy. Fanfic summary: Khovu unearths a secret wing in the Great Gubal library. G'raha finds far more than he bargained for within its forbidden tomes. Quote from the fanfic: “Cock… cages?” G’raha repeats, ears twitching violently as he glances back at the page. “So they are designed to..?” “Deny someone access to their cock, yes,” Khovu replies, eyes glinting in amusement. An excerpt from the fanfic alongside character art. On the left, G'raha Tia, a Miqo'te with fair skin, straight red hair, and red eyes, gives the viewer a big thumbs up. Below him, the text "I consent!" curves around his tail in big, blue block letters. Fic excerpt: G'raha tries to scrub the image from his thoughts — it’s a foolish, lecherous desire, and he can’t possibly ask Khovu for this — but his eyes simply won’t tear away from the page. His thoughts race away from him, wrenching free of any attempt to contain them; he imagines Khovu lounging on soft grass, wearing nothing but one of these cages; he imagines Khovu fucking G'raha with his tongue while stroking the bars of the device around his dick; he imagines Khovu in Sharlayan’s market, fully clothed, but with the barest outline of hard metal visible through his trousers… An excerpt from the fanfic alongside character art. On the right, Khovu, a Miqo'te with brown skin, curly dark hair, and purple eyes, crosses his arms while giving the viewer a thumbs up. Below him, the text "I consent!" curves around him in big, purple block letters. Fic excerpt: “I want you to come like this,” G'raha tells him. Khovu’s eyes go wide, even as G'raha keeps easing him open — three fingers, one knuckle deep now, working towards two. “I — I don’t know if I can —” G'raha finds that fascinating. Did Khovu expect to pass the entire sennight without a climax? And is it truly impossible for him to orgasm inside the cage? Well. That, at least, is a hypothesis G'raha can test. “You can,” G'raha says. “You can do it, for me.”

Me as well. I read a great book he wrote called Catching the Big Fish (I think that's it?) It covered everything from his movies to transcendentalism.

Film is such an awesome medium. I love learning about it. 🥰

I'm actually going to a screening of Blue Velvet at the library this week.

When I think of my #comicsdna, aka the comics and books that are responsible for me being, well...me. Here are the earliest four I can think of. The comics that got me into reading and shaped me as a comicer at my very core. Slapstick, action, wordplay and coolness codified.
The Beano and the Dandy book covers from 1979 and 1986. It's not cheating to put these two as one, same with the Beezer and the Topper and all those other fantastic comics. Everyone's house had dozens of old copies from random years and I bought them both every week for years. That's right the ASTONISHING Spider-man, a UK reprint collection that put 3 issues of spidey together in a nice contained package. And honestly it was a real help for brits when spidey stories could span a half dozen titles. If a story started in Amazing, then finished in Web of/Peter Parker/Spectacular etc. They collected the Clone saga and put it in order across all the minis and everything. Absolutely fantastic. And often very reasonably priced at a magazine overstock shop by mouse house so I often got pretty new issues for 50p a pop. Bargain! Asterix being my stand in for all the franco-belgian comics I read and adored as a little kid as soon as I got access to a library. Asterix being my first big one, but obviously Tintin, Lucky Luke and Marsupilami and all that other good stuff. I don't care if it was a videogame property first, Sonic the Comic was massive to me. It was formative as all get out. AND it's definitely 100% the reason I ended up working for IDW these days. I still love the Fleetway canon over every interpretation of the character to date. The OVA, the Boom, AoSTH/SatAM, they're all great. But Fleetway, fleetway will forever have my heart. I will always be a pixel-brained Boomer.

Dreadnought Album Launch Event with FMA + 12 Gage and n0trixx - The Ferret, Preston 17th January 2025

Read my FREE Music Ezine SlumpLife.
To get this recap of everything covered on my Socials in the previous month, go to: bit.ly/SlumpLifeIssue17
Library of all issues is at: bit.ly/SlumpLife
Start & End paragraph n0trixx fled Russia after protesting against the regime and its attack on Ukraine. She lives with DID (Dissociative Identity Disorder) and along with the other Neurodivergent Crew (NDC) members, she is admirably frank and open about her struggles. After originally fleeing to Turkey, she now lives in England near her NDC friends. She is signed to UMG subsidiary PHARMA and her cathartic music might be what many need in today’s world. n0trixx’s set is brief but electrifying. Merging Eastern European and Turkish influences with trap, nu-metal and industrial vibes, results in something strikingly original. Her eastern-influenced vocal melodies stand out, and her rapid-fire rhymes rival top rappers, making this a storming set. Start & End paragraph Somebody comes out to the beer garden and shouts “FMA + 12 Gage in 2 minutes.” An underestimation as 45 seconds later I’m in the venue and they’ve already started The Machine. Which is a BIG fucking tune. The father and son duo immediately start spitting lyrics at a rapid pace. FMA paces the stage like a caged polar bear, while 12 Gage seems slightly calmer, though he’s hardly static. You can hear FMA hitting his chest over the sound of the PA, as he delivers his lines. Few acts fully commit to every word of a set. Despite my fluctuating love for rap, these guys remind me of my first encounters with Public Enemy, Consolidated, and B. Dolan. The final song is Finito, whose music is house flavoured with some of the bass skullduggery of dubstep. It provides a high tempo, high energy finale to what’s been a stonking set that made me tired just watching. Start & End paragraph Dreadnought’s set celebrated his debut album, Fatal Flaw. His music fuses industrial beats, metal, and trap with rapid-fire raps and indignant fury. It’s dark, horror-laden, musical violence and it perfectly caps off the vibe of this five-band bill. After a brief Madonna-assisted introduction, Dreadnought immediately gives you a pummelling with Gambit, a malicious industrial metal assault. It’s a furious start, and Dreadnought exudes great stage presence, immediately engaging the crowd. The subsequent Sharkbait is another face-melting sensory assault, like an unholy alliance between American Headcharge and Ministry. There’s one last song as the other NDC members come on stage to perform D.A.A.Dy. It’s a fitting end to the set, having all the NDC together on stage. It’s obvious just how much these guys support and inspire each other. And in a fractured and fucked-up world we all need people who have got our backs. A great end to a highly entertaining set.

The #bookshelves are put together at last! Forgive the crappy lighting, I'm working on it. I'm incredibly proud of my collection. It took years and way too much money to make happen, but I finally have my personal library! Big thanks to IKEA for the MVP that is Billy bookshelves. Had to share!
Photo of wide white bookshelves on either side of a thin one. Most shelves are full of books with colorful spines. On top of the shelves are several different stuffed sharks. The middle shelves are mostly board game boxes with 3 shelves of fandom merch, like Funko Pops and keychains. There are a couple fake plants, a pair of boy and girl stuffed ball-jointed dolls and other tchotchkes. Two large white bookcases side-to-side. On top is one giant stuffed shark. Most of the shelves are books, including a large collection of Harlequin Blaze and Historicals. The top right shelf is all core rule books for ttrpgs. The third shelf down has 5 dolls and 3 plushie creatures on display. A small painting of a flamingo is displayed on the second shelf down next to notebooks and coloring books. The lighting is not great. A comfortable looking book nook. A chaise covered in cozy blankets and pillows sits with the back aimed diagonally toward the right. There is a beige pouf on the left as well as a 2 level round white rotating shelf with a few books on top and on the shelves. Against the wall behind everything are two white bookshelves nearly full of books but also decorated with fake plants and 2 owl shaped bookends.

My depiction of Xena, Warrior Princess and her mare Argo. In my version, Xena still has bright, light blue eyes and straight, chest-length black hair, but she's a lot more muscular, she has a darker/tanner skin tone crossed with all sorts of battle scars and one across her neck, and she's wearing an armor heavily inspired by Macedonian / Alexander The Great type of armor. She's looking off-frame, with a serious, thoughtful, distant expression. Across her waist, she has a Bulgarian-inspired traditional coins. She's standing in a golden wheat field, holding a xiphos sword with one hand, and the other resting on the muzzle of her mare, Argo; Argo is a palomino horse (golden coat, white, curly mane), and is behind Xena, resting her head against Xena's shoulder. The painting is digital, but style and composition and mimicking traditional oil paintings (Bouguereau, especially) Digital illustration, full colored commissioned OC - a black young woman, late teens/ early 20s, with a big afro-styled hair, quietly reading a book in a library. She's wearing a blue dress and headdress, inspired by Tudor-era fashion, and the huge book is open on a carved wood book stand. We can see books on a bookshelf behind her, and an old globe map nearby. A ray of sun comes from the top left down to the girls book, giving everything a golden, peaceful feeling Digital commissioned art, mimicking oil painting/pastel-like painting textures. It features the client's OC, Orpheus, playing a lyre as the dark shadow of Eurydice looms over her, the OCs lore heavily based on the myth of Orpheus and Eurydice! Orpheus here is a white woman in her mid-30s, with a sharp, chiseled face and long dark, wavy hair in a braided chignon, with some loose locks framing her face. She's wearing some armor on her arms, waist and legs, and gauntlets on her arms/hands. She's sitting, playing a big, black lyre in her arms; the lyre has oranges and orange leaves and flowers painted on it. Orph's hand in the front of the lyre, plucking at the strings, has blackened fingers by some magic/curse. Looming over her, there's the slender and shadowy profile figure of Eurydice, with a bright eye and a long elf-like ear, her hair flowing around her like smoke. One of her hands is resting on Orph's left shoulder and the other is behind the lyre, as if to pluck the strings as well. Orpheus is looking up at us with an aloof, serious expression. The whole image has a foggy, dream-like vibe, in shades of orange, purple and pink. Digital art commission of a character from the webcomic Sister Clair, Sabine; she was commissioned by one of the webcomic creators (Ash!). Sabine is a transgender, middle-aged woman. She's inspired by Iranian trans activist Maryam Khatoon Molkara. She's fat, and has dark curly hair falling to her chest, peppered in white strands, showing her age. Her right eye is brown and her left eye is golden (part of her magic), and her face is androgynous, feminine but also with a five o''clock shadow on her chin and jaw. She's wearing golden jewelry, a necklace and bracelets, and her dress is red with clue and golden accents. The composition was inspired by the painting “A Vision of Fiammetta” painting by Dante Gabriel Rossetti - Sabine is surrounded by pink flowers, holding the branches that are framing her, and blue morpho butterflies are flying around her. She has a luminous scar going down her left arm (part of her magic)

I've decided to make an in-character journal for my pathfinder sessions, written by the snake-companion of my witch. His language skills and sketching skills are going to improve as he goes. Turned out to be very fun!

#fantasy #journal #pathfinder #sketch #art

(Strength of a 1000 AP spoilers!)
A page from a journal written by a familiar Day: Aro 16 4721 Time: midday? maybe? we arrive after food! Weather: stormy and cloudy and really rainy. Wet. Came to the Magaambi today. Teacher Ot was there! He gave speeches and everything. There was also another girl with a cat. Shai and I not great at the questions, got a bit nervous that not allowed in. But other girl also not so great with questions. I think maybe question 'who are you' more difficult than Alastor thought. Did a few strange tests, including lighting candles and making rocks dance. Very strange. Shai says it's a test of something called 'problem solving'. At least, that's what she thinks. Also touched weird shiny glyph and now, kind of understand how do magic trick. (Doodle of 2 glyphs: scales and an hourglass) Shai say, it's a little good trick. Like asking 'where to go' and magic give a little push. Seems useful! We got a bead for it too! It's really pretty! I put it n my pouch for now. Shai got one too! A sketch of a glass bead with an arrow pointing towards it with a little "Shai Help Draw" note. Day: Aro 16 4721 Time: late evening Weather: Still stormy! I write from new room! We have a new room! And its so big! But also, everything hurts. I protect Shai! But, not protect enough. Not strong enough yet. When we arrived at doritry we met a few people! One nice lady, showing us around, one big cat offering mangos, one person talking about evening games (I hope they play poker!) and one very very nervous one with a chicken. Oh, there was also a lady inside room with webs. I think she has young. (A map of the spire dormitory with various rooms labelled with notes such as 'poker moonshine weird smell room', 'cat home', 'smelly room' etc} We went all around the place, and west shower rooms are better than east. East smelly and had weird paper frogs, folding themselves into other ones. Lizards and birds. They look weak but hit pretty bad! Really hurt, getting papercut but worse! Still stings a little. (Sketch of 3 paper origami creatures - a frog with 'sharp paper' and 'dumb' note, a lizard with 'scary frills' note and a crane with 'fly' note.) Poor cat. One of the papercut monster things (Paper devils?) attacked cat. Got right in there, cut him pretty bad. Blood and all that. Very sad. Shai help, and patch cat up, but hit like that can't be pleasant. Hope cat maybe put in bag next time, for safety. Cat not as big and strong like Alastor. Tomorrow, we go to place with food. A little hungry, but Shai say, not to wander off too much. I go maybe find rat to offer to cat, for recovery. {Left page is covered in doodles of ants with an 'ant dreams all night' note.) Day: Aro 17 4721 Time: Early morning Mists and such. Colder morning than usual. Wave up VERY early, Essie wake up. Give ONLY five minutes to wake up Shai! Shai yell a lot becuase very cold outside blanket. Met cat person again. Try say potions samples but nice lady say he wants money. Shai and Belle talk, and seems everyone get ant dreams... Weird. Met Xhokan, very nice - give money and supplies for student! I get as much parchment as need! Also gave clay. And gave bead! (Sketch of a bead with a thread through it. The bead is in the shape of a tiny bag. Next to it, a folded piece of paper) Now have two! Already feel like real student. Also took pamphlet - lots of shopkeep names here Made bead for Xhokahn too, better remember to give! Made nice bead, scales on it too. Got another bead resembling fruit from Lumusi Yao (cook!) Now have three!! (A smeared picture of something with a 'tried to draw but smudge :(' note next to it. An arrow poitns to it from a different sketch of vaguely the same shape as the smear, showing a glass bead shaped like a pineapple with a 'shai help' note) Kitchen Open time: From sunrise to 2 hour after sunset Have biscuit and plantain and cookie maybe rat too. Must see later, see if help. Got MASSIVE egg, but too hard to eat so ask for smaller very good kitchen! (Doodle of an egg with an arrow and 'egg' note next to it) Now we begin Perkusit and help people and community. Seems nobody will let use anything here unless we do, so we go back to dormitory. On way there, see massive bug that eat book, so grab cinamon stick to keep bad silverfish away. (Doodle of two rolls of cinamon bark with a 'smell nice' note) Rough Map of some places! I try to mark things! (a rough doodle of Magaambya map with certain places such as libraries, the spire dormitory and powder pile marked on it) Day: Same day Time: afternoon We went home because refused at library. A bit sad, because wanted to see if they have any book about the dream of ant we having. Strange dream that people share sound like prophecy or sign maybe. Shai worry. I worry too. We clean up smelly room, find nice wrap of punch things hard in laundry pile too. Thankful that no paper foldy monster things this time. We discover thing! I spot thing - secret door between wash room and our room! So we go through door! (rough map of where the secret door was inside the dormitory) Inside, lots of nasty old mouldy tunnel and then natural tunnel and then dug out tunnel. Find camp there, and smell of gremlin. Smell old, though. We lucky that Belle pay attention, me and Shai so excited to find palce that almost not notice huge massive BIG FLY! (Doodle of a tiny snake next to a massive tse tse fly with a note 'me (handsome) pointing to the snake and 'huge fly (dumb)' pointing to the fly.) We run away fast but first Shai hit fly with beam, of frost! Right in the nozzle! Big shot!
