As a Greek American I don’t know who to apologize to.

europe has many wonderful foodways (i love greece and greek cuisine!) but “european food is uniformly better than american food” is a crock of shit and only holds if your knowledge of american food and foodways is what you’ve seen on TV

The Greek story about Narcissus makes infinitely more sense than the American version featuring Donald Trump.

In the Greek iteration, Narcissus wasn't a gargoyle.

It was an honor to meet with Archbishop Elpidophoros of the Greek Orthodox Archdiocese of America.

In the Assembly, I was privileged to represent Astoria’s vibrant Greek community. As Mayor, I will work alongside the Archbishop to support every Greek American who calls this City home.

Like Shakespeare, the Greek classics have been interpreted countless times in countless places. If you do antigone in China, are you supposed to scour the place for Greek actors? Nolan’s Odyssey is an American film so it looks like America. bsky.app/profile/beau...

Israel is about the size of Greece. I love Greece, my best friend is Greek, but if every single American election from mayor's races on up was consumed by idiosyncratic Greek questions, I'd get tired of it real fast

Taking a moment on St. Patrick's Day to remember my mom, a proud Irish-American and USAF vet. My dad was Greek and I was raised Greek Orthodox (she was a convert) but this was always our day to listen to Irish music and celebrate our heritage.

I know it’s all culture war nonsense but right wingers criticizing the odyssey for having black people or whatever is so odd. It is an AMERICAN adaptation. The actors cannot speak Greek. Nobody has any relationship to any Ancient Greeks or whatever. It is not a Greek movie

Since a British director made The Odyssey in English with American leads, I think a Greek director should make Pride and Prejudice in Greek with Cypriot leads

its just endless variations of the same idioms, with African American Vernacular English carrying the entire nation on its back like a Greek titan

it’s been very amusing to overhear Greek waiters trying to talk American and German tourists into eating things like rabbit and seasonal vegetables

Greek Life is kind of a rosetta stone for everything that's rotting American culture and I don't know how much progress you can make until it's disassembled

American Christianity is a sick, smug, smarmy, selfish, sadomasochistic, self-aggrandizing, self-serving delusion.

And I say that as a Greek-American Christian who's disturbed by American White Christianity.

Why do they use imported Greek letters? Why don't they use American-made letters?

Fun fact. The Hawaiian Pizza was invented in Canada by a Greek immigrant, who was inspired by Chinese food to put a South American ingredient on an Italian dish, that went on to be most popular in Australia.

He's possibly right that American & British actors affecting a Greek accent wouldn't have worked, but why would American actors affecting an English accent have been more authentic?
July 20, 2026 at 7:16 AM
They don’t care that the cast isn’t Greek. They don’t care that the armour is all wrong. They don’t care that Tom Holland in an American accent refers to Odysseus as Dad.
They only care about Helen being played by Lupita Nyong'o.
I WONDER WHY.
The far right is being racist. Here's why it's the left's fault.

y'know thinking on it, those mobile game ads of a woman being put through an endless series of ever more ridiculous humiliations and then tasking you with solving their puzzle is kind of like an extremely american take on some greek divine punishment mythos
