Dramatically drop. They want HCBS to end up costing more though so they can start pulling waivers and go back to forced institutions. (Waivers are only approved if they can prove it costs less and now they have wait lists tied to it) super simplified response, but the gist is there lol

Wait lists are astronomical, but that’s largely in part that HCBS isn’t a required service where as LTSS is (they often go hand in hand) HCBS is entirely dependent on waiver funding, and at any moment can be discontinued but LTSS can’t be and is part of all standard Medicaid.

So yeah, if you read about this shit, and you know me, you know this directly impacts me in my life. I rely on home and community based services to get by. I suffer without them, but I would rather die than be forced into an institution. HCBS are actually cheaper, and healthier. This is about greed.

- Medicaid, OSERS, HR1, HCBS Cuts
- a DSP crisis exasperated by ICE
- fears of losing independent living, homes, jobs, community
- A million issues with access to health care
- SSI, SSDI, benefits cliff

The only thing I’m going to say about the lesbian mask bar story is that the kind of person depicted in it is really marginal in most real life disability advocacy and support spaces, even if they don’t act like it online.

Im glad you said it because I was thinking it... at least in the sense in my work if they arent talking about HR1 and medicaid and HCBS cuts, and OSERs and the DSP crisis and how Immigration impacts it etc, they arent touching the issues that I hear people bring up the most

Oh, this is for children and for folks using private insurance. California HCBS already pays for adults with I/DDs to receive many different types of evidence-based treatments paid through Medicaid. It seems like this bill expands that access to those with private insurance and children.
