It took me a while to realise just how angry at a deep level it made me. Most of us like our HiFis, Jonathan, get wrecked if you think there is a constituency for making them more expensive to buy and maintain.

Old things are better than they’ve ever been before: you can pick up pre-owned bikes, computers, cars, hifis, CDs and games for a fraction of their original price and they’re *really* good.

Nem merek lemezjátszót venni, mert akkor soha nincs vége; mindig jobb erősítő, hangfal kell, lemezbörzék havonta, aztán bécsi, pozsonyi börze… Ismerősünk ős-hifis, van egy lemezjátszó, gyün belőle a hang, nem kell cájg, de a lemez őrület akkor is befigyelne, ismerem magam, ha elkezdem, végem.

This is why CDs were so revolutionary - a 100 quid aiwa System was top rated on what hifi against 40 grand hifis for a while. I bought it. Then Oasis ruined it with their what if we only used the top 10% of the volume and should be tried in The Hague for their crimes. Wankers.

Yes vintage HiFis like mine had valve rectifiers. Many modern guitar amplifiers also still use them, overdriven they introduce a certain amount of sponginess and compression into the sound that many guitar players like.
