Our mates @theeghammuseum.bsky.social tell us it's #HandwritingDay, so we give you....

The fantastic handwriting of the Late Great Dr Roger Jacobi - Palaeontologist and Archaeologist extraordinaire (this sample from 2006)! 😍🤩

Happy #HandwritingDay! I did a little video with a few different nib types. I like to adapt my writing style to the nib #fountainpen

Okay as @theeghammuseum.bsky.social and @romanpalace.bsky.social informed us that it's #handwritingday we're pulling out the big guns.

A letter from 1597 signed by Queen Elizabeth I.

#handwritingday. This is the first page from my Hungarian great-grandfather Arthúr Domán’s diary from 1915, written in a POW camp for officers in Akmolinsk in Imperial Russia (nowadays Astana, Kazakhstan).

We hear it's #HandwritingDay, obviously no examples of handwriting survive from the Mary Rose (well, not from the wreck site anyway - see the next post), but we did find an inkpot with a couple of feather quill tips, suggesting that one of the crew was writing letters home.

Today is National Handwriting Day! ✍️

Reading handwritten records can be a challenging or enjoyable aspect (often both!) of archival research.

Our Syon Abbey Collection contains six centuries of handwriting!

How good is your handwriting? ✍️✨ My handwriting looks like a doctor’s note… 😅📝 but somehow I can hand-draw just fine. 🎨💛So here are some sketches as proof that legibility is optional when you’re an artist. 😂✏️ Happy #HandwritingDay

Ok so not as impressive as @yorkadventurers.bsky.social letter from Queen Liz I, but for #handwritingday can anyone decipher this account book from 1829? It’s from the old courthouse which collapsed into the river Cocker in 2023.

Our second #HandwritingDay post of the day is list by #CuratorRob of stuff to pack for a camping trip.

The handwriting's the best he could do but there's a lot to unpack in this packing list. 🤨

🗓️✍️ It’s #NationalHandwritingDay today. Many of Dunblane's historic Leighton Library books have handwritten notes by Robert Leighton in margins, smallest is "De imitatione Christi" by Thomas a Kempis #HandwritingDay

Moin zusammen!

It’s #HandwritingDay so I thought I’d share a thread about Renaissance handwritten documents I worked with in the research that led to “Inventing the Renaissance,” and the best and worst scripts I’ve ever seen. 1/?

(Continuing countdown to the release of my *absurdly fat* *absurdly orange* book!)
