He is very good at poker. I'm not sure he'd ever write poetry or a novel, but he is a lover of classic literature. He collects hardbacks and has a mini library in his closet

Paperback orders will ship Monday! I'm still waiting for the hardbacks to ship but they're in production so it shouldn't be too long.

Thank you! Sorry you ended up with the old cover. Amazon bought 5 hardbacks when it first came out and apparently still has them! The inside is the same though ❤️

The Houston Public Library had a big book sale with $2 hardbacks and $1 paperbacks. I got 10 books for $24. 😎

My last post honoured National Poetry Day by showing a few of my favourite poetry books. Today is #caturday, so here are two more favourites from my bookshelf.

Reading for pleasure may be declining, but quite the contrary for me. Give me a few unhurried hours and a good book, and I will happily disappear for several chapters.

Hardbacks are my favourite. They sit on the shelf looking magnificent and declaring, “I am a book. Do not throw me away.” 📚
Reading for pleasure is declining. Romance and fantasy are preferred over serious fiction. So you might expect the appeal of the classics for film-makers to wane. We explain why the opposite is true

And older books are not a problem with this one. The Count of Monte Cristo was her jam earlier this year and she has opinions on hardbacks with deckled edges

Yeah, I kept all my old paperbacks and I read them more than the fancy volumes. Some stuff, though, is only in those hardbacks.

They arrived. They actually arrived!

Our copies of Threshing Day by Rebecca Yarros are here & just look at them! The silvery cover, the illustrated endpapers, the dragons inside. We’ve spent an entirely reasonable amount of time opening one to show each other the pictures.

Age of Apocalypse is SO good. Blew my mind as a kid and it still holds up. I have the hardbacks for it and read them every few years. The revisits to it have been mostly diminishing returns, though. "Akira Yoshida" wrote some of them and they were pretty bad. Uncanny X-Force did a good job with it.

Septembers reading included...

Always pleasant to escape into Edward Thomas's Fenlands. Otherwise, a mixed bag...

I have lots of books. The chemical content of the paper matters. An old newspaper becomes yellowed and fragile. Barring flood or fire hardbacks and many paperbacks last. The quality chrome paper National Geographic, Scientific American & The New Yorker magazines will outlast us.

In the UK today is National Poetry Day, so here are some poetry books…
A schoolbook, gifts from classmates, students, friends, my mother's school prize from 1937…, books are important both for the words inside them & for the associations the physical books themselves hold.

I will always love how 3e leaned into its aesthetic with the hardbacks. It really felt like you had these awesome tomes you were carrying around full of all sorts of craziness. Honestly, probably my favorite edition even with the rules crunch

One from the vaults! Daniel Farson was a serious writer and broadcaster but as he was the grand-nephew of Bram Stoker, he loved all things spooky too. And he helmed a series of lavishly illustrated hardbacks for kids exploring the dark side, starting with The Hamlyn Book of Ghosts in 1978.
