Stole just a few seconds from this roosting #BarredOwl near the hawkwatch platform at Cape May NJ last weekend. Imagine the luck - picking a park with literally hundreds of rabid birders to take a nap! 😅 #birding #hawkwatch 🦅🪶

Red-tailed Hawks may be the most abundant raptor in North America, but they’re also the result of incredible evolutionary dynamics that have woven a tapestry of 16 subspecies across the continent.

You can have your ex — symbolically — become prey to a raptor this Valentine's Day, through HawkWatch International's "Talon-tine's Day" fundraiser.
For $5, name a rat after your ex, and a bird of prey will eat it for Valentine’s Day

Broad-winged Hawk
The winds were not kind to us as we only had 26 migrants. We have had as many as 5k but it is entirely up to the weather during their short migration window.

Met a few cool raptors — a Harris’s hawk, a barn owl, and a red-tailed hawk — through Hawkwatch International today (my parents have been very into this stuff for 30 years)

There’s a big #AmericanKestrel day most years at our Plum Island, MA #Hawkwatch site - usually I’m at work, reading a report and cursing. This year, everything lined up and the big AMKE day was a weekend. 357 birds, a top-10 single day count and a season-making experience. Birds rule. 😎🦅✌️🪶 #birding

Your daily owl! Drove out to the Ramona today! It was fantastic! I got to see red tailed hawks, burrowing owls, barn owls, a peregrine falcon and more! I highly recommend it. It’s only on Saturdays in January and February; I missed it last time. #RamonaHawkWatch

Northern Flicker

They often fly to the top of the hill where they forage along with Blue Jays and play tag with American Kestrels. Sometimes they number a dozen or more.

Old Cock Sparrow.
Springwatch? Haven't got time for that mate - too busy on Hawkwatch and I wouldn't trust them Windhovers as far as I could throw 'em....
They call us House Sparrows, be we likes to sit and chirp in a nice thick hedge.

Anyone interested in volunteering to help HawkWatch International locate Stax can join planned searches at 6:30 p.m. tonight and 9:30 a.m. and 6:30 p.m. Friday.

A rescue hawk not native to Utah and dependent on humans is missing in Sugar House. Can you help find him?
“He is a very vocal bird with a distinctive call, so people may hear him before they see him,” said an official with HawkWatch International, a Salt Lake City-based nonprofit that works to help hawks and other raptors.
