Reuters analyzed more than 8 million Mexican birth records. Heatwaves in the final four weeks of pregnancy were associated with about 6.5% more preterm births, rising to 18% with the highest exposure. The data show an association, not proof of individual causes.

Assorted links for the weekend include heatstorms, plug-in solar, the compelling absurdity of wind turbine blade lifters, and an album recommendation for fans of Margaret Atwood's dystopian fiction.
What we learned this week
Reuters' investigation into global heatwaves has led them to conclude that we need a new term for them. They're calling them heatstorms, and their report is an interesting crossover of journalism and science. On the subject of heatwaves, studies in Nature Health have calculated that there were 50,000 heat-related deaths in Europe this summer, the hottest on record. Remember this number for the next time a climate denying nostalgist starts telling you about 1976.

Heat storms, massive heat waves covering at least 1% of the globe for five consecutive days, have become increasingly frequent and severe. These storms were rare in the 1960s, but now average 102 events per year, causing widespread heat-related deaths, wildfires, and droughts.

Kudos to the @reuters.com team that reported this. "Heat storms" is a great term for what we're experiencing. And I'll never forget the anecdote about the nosebleed 😱https://www.reuters.com/investigates/special-report/climate-heatstorms-science/

Thats something: Reuters starts to spread in dept information on how catastrophic global warming is becoming

Guess some parts of the super rich slowly understand what is coming if we do not react

It's as clear a message as one can spread on global warming spiraling out of control
