The Hedge laying competition in co Kildare yesterday was fascinating.

Got to watch the teams pleaching & binding and check out the regeneration in the hedges the #hedgelaying from two years ago.

Loved to see a range of age groups keeping the art of living fences alive.

Hazel poles harvested in anticipation of a hedgelaying session in the New Year, working on a hedge planted by volunteers 7 years ago. Won't be tackling the whole 500m though!

Day 20 of my #tree #adventcalendar & it's hedgelaying day. None of the hedges I've helped lay have been the most aesthetically accomplished, but I enjoy it & they're great habitats for wildlife. The left is a hawthorn & blackthorn hedge, the right is hazel. Guess which was the most pleasant to lay?!
