#Hegemon

www.theguardian.com/us-news/2026... These religious GOP fuckers are great at "protecting the unborn" but once born, fuck 'em, well until they are 18 so they can go murder people, by way of armed forces, worldwide for hegemon.

Beyond a Boundary is the best yes. In the essay I linked he explains somewhat how that way of thinking about the hegemon came to be.

Mate, CLR James wrote one of the best cricket/sport books in all of history

Yes, he informed my understanding of how subjects view their hegemon

Yes it’s complicated

Man, it seems like the Supreme Court is truly so powerful, the only organization that can really damage it is itself…. Kind of like a hegemon choosing an idiot on the scale of King George III or or Emperor Commodus on purpose.

Pick-me group under divide and drule. This bodes ill for NATO. The decaying hegemon at the centre of this is proving to not have allies, only interests. Unlike the empire whose Lord Palmerston championed that perspective, the interests are neither national nor strategic, only naked personal greed.
U.S. organizes a "Bergen Group" of favored NATO allies based on defense spending, drawing backlash from excluded members. European officials warn the exclusive club fractures alliance unity while Russia escalates its hybrid warfare campaigns across the continent.
European allies push back against US-led NATO VIP club
Washington’s move to gather favored allies could undermine NATO unity, some countries excluded from the group say.

#Palestine Israel was offered a peace deal, recognition, absorption of 300,000 Palestinian refugees by Syria in 1949. Israel refused, ostensibly over water rights but one wonders if it was more than that. That Israel wanted, needed, saw in its nascent days it had US support to become the hegemon?

I would of course posit that having a hegemon is not the issue, it is the high wealth/asset concentration that is causing & furthering instability (we can see this w/climate change), and somewhat clearing that w/o climate destruction or terrible wars should be the goal

Yeah, I think so. 😀 His basic argument is that with the fall of communism and the globalisation of capitalism history in the Whig sense reached a terminus. He accepts liberal capitalism is in trouble, but says it doesn’t as yet have any worthy contenders for a new hegemon.

President Xi Jinping has repeatedly said China will "never seek hegemony, expansion, or a sphere of influence." Nonetheless, Western academics like John Mearsheimer continue to argue China will seek to become a regional hegemon. https://bit.ly/4zb14VB

Professor Astrid Nordin argues both are true.

Kinda struck by how Fukuyama still sticks to his ‘End of History’ thesis. He says that while there is all this thymotic politics of rage and resentment, we’re still post-history because no new hegemon is on the horizon (he’s convinced Putin & Xi’s models don’t have what it takes to universalise).

When the former Hegemon "elects" a traitorous clown

Die Maschinerie läuft. Jetzt geht's nur noch um den Herr Hegemon.

Die Rechten haben sich aber geschnitten. Bezahlbarkeit schlägt den Kulturkampf. It's affordability stupid.

Then there's the Empire. Aside from my usual suspicion that every empire/hegemon in a modern text from the US is basically talking about the US, there's a lot that can be unpicked and delved into more deeply, relating to the Civil War and it being portrayed that way.

So...yeah.

Each departing hegemon has left a legacy of frustrated designs and unintended consequences in the Middle East. America’s retrenchment could be an opportunity for change—or calamity
When America walks away
For decades America has enjoyed hegemony over the Middle East. That is about to end

"0-2 but it was close" type hegemon
The day that Biden grew so angry at Netanyahu that he nearly cut him off: "He was just completely fed up with everything and I think at that moment he was ready to just say, 'I’m done,'" Brett McGurk recalls as he releases "Brink," his memoir of Gaza war. www.nytimes.com/2026/10/01/u...

we really had to update a whole lot of our prior assumptions and strategies when it sank in that we could no longer rely on an even semi-benevolent local hegemon

but you can't be a regional hegemon without *allies*, Bibi ...

‘Bc US did worse’ is not why they are good. They are not good or bad. They are revolutionary projects facing challenges from an unprecedented hegemon in the history of mankind. The simple logic asserted here has strong liberal support- but supporting revolutionary projects is liberal?

So that Israel under Bibi’s rule is the regional hegemon.
October 1, 2026 at 7:47 PM
Israel is if not the regional hegemon then very close to it. Its sole rival in the entire Middle East is Iran, and Israel is capable of devastating Iranian infrastructure in a way Iran cannot hope to do in exchange.

Within less than 2 year's the supposed Global Hegemon ran out of Diesel and started to demand access to Strategic Reserves of *checks notes* OTHER Nations who did not start this stupid war with Iran

While imposing illegal Tariffs on the same Countries

How about no?

How about a Diaper change?
October 1, 2026 at 6:48 PM
Yes obvs just watched one of the episodes with a british character, always weird and concerning seeing your country represented from outside, particularly by the show that is literally The Usa Is The Global Hegemon And Thats Good Actually
October 1, 2026 at 5:17 PM
"assert itself as a regional hegemon" seems like a stretch from "control the hunting grounds" but I guess I can see it. But idk how you can draw a sharp offensive/defensive line in this case as the US is clearly trying to do the same thing, in Iran's backyard (not to mention we started this war)
October 1, 2026 at 4:51 PM
The gulf states. Iran has been trying to assert itself as a regional hegemon for quite a while and has been trying to drive the United States out of the region since basically the day after the Iranian Revolution.
