Pete and I counted 185 Corn Buntings into roost at Hockwold Washes this evening. They roosted in Suffolk but virtually all flew over Norfolk to drop into roost. One Water Pipit too

Whilst watching the Caspo at Lakenheath, a female Garganey flew to the river and started feeding, then 2 Cranes flew a couple of circuits, mostly high, and occasionally calling to each other - such an evocative sound.

Fantastic to see this tight flock of 35 Little Gulls fly quickly eastwards through Hockwold Washes this morning at 0909, followed by a further 5 at 0936. Birding magic!

My 7th Caspian Tern, all of which have been in either #SuffolkBirding or #NorfolkBirding this one was in both. My last one in the Brecks was 33 years ago. Inner primaries missing, but a black cap - I think that makes it a 2CY but I stand to be corrected.

Hockwold Washes at RSPB Lakenheath Fen had a good arrival overnight: Grey Plover, Greenshank, Whimbrel, 3 Little Ringed Plovers, 2 Common Sandpipers, Black-tailed Godwit (Limosa) and Garganey

A couple of eclipse/immature Pintail - my first of the year, 2 juvenile Hobby and a Great White Egret on Hockwold Wash, a Clouded Yellow flew through.

Earlier, just a dozen species of Moth in their trap. I’m glad it’s not just me. Did include my 2nd & 3rd Vestals though. #teammoth

Bit of a Fens day. Started off at Hockwold Washes and Lakenheath Fen. My first Swift of the year, a drake Garganey, Bitterns and wonderful views of two Otters. Onto Welney, enjoyed all the ducks and waders, including a few limosa.

Thanks to the finder of the Caspian Tern at Hockwold Washes for getting the news out. Great to see this - the last twitchable one in the Brecks was in spring 1992, a few months before I moved here. Flyover Cranes, female Garganey too.

Arrived at 1 pm for my volunteer shift at RSPB Lakenheath and within 10 minutes I was watching a Caspian Tern on Hockwold Washes, what a bird! Quickly put the news out, then returned to await the arrival of local birders! @patchbirding.blueskysocial #patchgold! #PWC2025 #Birds!
