I did the "pin cooking recipe websites above my stove" thing with my work-provided HoloLens 2 and it was *great* for a device that cost me $0 but definitely not for $3500

Sorry I’d actually misread the headline being the regular glasses. For sure VR is struggling to find its place in the consumer’s heart. Even gaming is slowing bouncing off it(for dedicated titles at least). Definitely a workplace thing as you say. Saw some neat things with HoloLens years back

Speaking of productivity, that's about the strongest case, right? Digital keyboards and hand controls and AI agents and they finally implemented legs in the metaverse! But it's still pricey for an office to buy for everyone and what's the killer software for it?

I did development work for my university using the og Hololens and the FOV on that was painfully small (30°), but since it was AR it didn't restrict your actual view. The Meta VR Glasses using camera passthrough with a FOV of 70° is going to be *rough*

FOV matters so much in VR, social especially. The new megacorp glasses might be interesting for other reasons but that thing has an FOV closer to a Hololens.

Oh it did fit the puzzle, it's just that M$FT never understood it. If you want to sell your platform to companies, you endear yourself to their IT staff. You glaze them with Xbox, adorn them in Surface, wow them with Hololens. You do cool things just because they're cool. Then you have *loyalty*.

As a former HoloLens person, I’ve been v curious about Meta’s roadmap in the category. Going audio only? What’s the differentiated experience that’s so much better than…having AirPods (+ AI)? ~60% of the U.S pop wears prescriptions. I can see the “smarter prescription” value prop working.

its not one xbox I would bet.. they are tagging it in the windows store,, but I doubt this actually exists on the xbox store.

in the past I worked for a company made apps for google glass and hololens, which I knew were over hyped shit doomed to fail.
