at least they've stopped polling horserace
@aedwardslevy.bsky.social this looked like something you'd appreciate. 😁

Gambling apps partnering with news organizations are the natural endpoint of horserace journalism. What’s the point of a horserace if you can’t bet on it

Democracy dies in horserace coverage

Fox is reporting on a threat to exterminate a country like it’s fucking horserace coverage
"The president said the US is in constant communication with the Houthis, and that they've agreed not to fight the US. But the big headline here is the president said the Iranians better behave, and he's making a decision as to whether or not to blow up their nation."

Horserace announcers gotta horserace
reading the NYT liveblog of the Stormy Daniels testimony and ... it's *really* not necessary for reporters to repeat, every other post, that they don't know how testimony will land with the jury. You can't read minds, we get it, you don't have to keep telling us.

is this... horserace Journalism

Mini-Nate with the moral clarity that pedophilia is a horserace
Enten: "Trump is 39 below water on the Epstein case. 39 points in the negative! My goodness gracious. What Trump has been selling on the Epstein files, the Epstein case, the American people have not been buying at all ... less than half of Republicans are buying it. This is his worst issue by far"

I am once again asking my phone to stop trying to autocomplete horserace as "horseradish"

It's another layer of national degradation and moral decline to see the political media treat child rape like just another horserace issue.

Casar as CNN presses him about running against Doggett: "We aren't accepting these illegal maps. We're not going to just stand by and be pit against one another... this fight is about something much bigger than the horserace... it's about voters being able to choose their member of Congress"

Please follow independent news outlets that won't horserace report us into an endless night of authoritarian fascism.

Follow outlets like the one I work for, @mississippifreepress.org.
This in a real story posted by NBC and blasted out to their email lists.

The mainstream media is, without exaggeration, gonna kill us all.

Levels of horserace coverage never thought possible.

my ken paxton for senate take is that i find it wildly difficult to imagine free and fair elections in november 2026 in texas in light of < everything > and any horserace analysis, even smart horserace analysis that takes the risible fall of democracy into account, will likely be inadequate

It's all theater, horserace, and fun little thought experiments for these guys.

@cnn.com always needs their "horserace" bullshit to try and juice their ratings, and will book whoever will sell that story

The alts, smaller outlets, and news orgs serving marginalized communities are your best bets for avoiding horserace journalism
I wish journalists would stop framing political news as wins or losses for politicians or political parties. It’s an abrogation of our mission. Why do we keep doing this? Is the spending bill a win or loss for the American people? Who does it help? Who does it hurt? Is it sound policy? Fiscally?

if polling is truly washed how does horserace coverage even work

sorry but everyone trying to rationalize the way nyt covers trump because of horserace incentives or some otherwise neutral value is being absolutely crushed by @mtsw.bsky.social "they like trump" thought
April 3, 2025 at 1:17 PM
The lazy media would rather talk horserace stuff than policy because horserace stuff takes little to no research and isn't "controversial" like you call out R's for lying about policy.

“Previews Fall Strategy” — perfect synthesis of authoritarianism into horserace coverage. nobody does it like you, nyt.
It's not new but it continues to be remarkably dangerous that the president routinely lies about various elections, past and present. And it is absolutely corrosive that refusing to condemn these lies--or even endorsing them--has become a GOP litmus test.

Hit Dems hard??? You mean hit already struggling people hard???

Horserace orgs like Politico wants SO BAD for the consequences of this shutdown to be about Democrats and partisan political gamesmanship rather than for everyday people.

This is where horserace journalism and deep moral rot collide.
April 7, 2026 at 8:30 PM
popularist horserace politics have completely scrambled people’s brains such that they can’t see that the question in front of them is whether they will resist evil things even if they’re popular
Even if he does it is worth resisting! I find all the talk of whether Trump’s power is legitimate baffling, honestly. He’s a straightforward authoritarian! The main reason to push back is all of the stuff he is going to do, not how his vote total stacks up to previous presidents.
Trump does not have a mandate.
