Many beautiful sights today at #NoKings Cincinnati — one of my favorites was the Dinosaur walking with the guy in the Reds cap. That’s a hybridity I can get behind.

Hybridity is a pretty niche specific word in this context from the work of Homi Bhabha and others from the 90s (en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hybridity). There is a lot to argue with both for and against the term but just fyi it's not totally coming out of left field

This sort of cultural syncretism, people bringing foods from other places and mixing them together to make something new and delicious, is not only not to be condemned, but actively celebrated, as part of imagining a future of mixing and hybridity beyond national borders.
For example, in Israel we eat falafel and hummus with zhug (some kind of chilli sauce), but Palestinians don't do that. It's because zhug is part of Yemeni cuisine and was brought to Israel with the Yemeni immigrants.

For all we think of Leviticus, the Holiness Code is actually a lot more invested in rigid ideals of purity and (non-)hybridity than it is invested in general moralizing. Hence not mixing seed, wearing wool-linen garments, tying animals together, etc.

Medium hybridity arises when filmmakers apply conventions associated with other media. A good illustration of such hybridity is Lars von Trier's Dogville (2003), which successfully combines radically minimalist sets based on Bertolt Brecht's epic theater with a range of cinematic techniques.

The logical extension of tikka masala discourse is people should only eat or cook food from their 'own' tradition?

Remember when cosmopolitanism, migration and hybridity were believed to be good things?

Trump thinks immigrants will destroy Europe. The truth is the opposite.
This column is about the long arc of population change, the hybridity of European cultures, and the widely-misinterpreted results of demographic momentum.
Big issues we need to understand.

This also ties in with my #MSWL - transformations, change, hybridity, negotations of self and identity, questioning the all -punks (solarpunk, steampunk etc), animal people, shifters, ferality, the environment.

to me, fwiw, this part is actually personal because I grew up in Los Angeles and the assumption that you could hear Asian, Spanish, Middle Eastern, and other languages on the street and enjoy cultural hybridity was normal

"yeah, its actually cool to live in a city where you can hear chinese and japanese spoken ambiently when you walk around" was not a 1980s sentiment, that's for sure, but you really are a bigot if you don't feel that way
