#Hydrofoils
Norway placed the biggest order of its kind—20 electric hydrofoil ferries using ~300–350 kWh NMC packs on standard DC fast chargers. Hydrofoils cut energy use ~80%, so smaller batteries win. Not brute force electrification—efficiency flips the equation. #Bettrification #EVs

A mute swan uses its webbed feet as hydrofoils to brake at 55 km/h , the same membrane that powers its swim becomes a precision brake on landing.

Some real "what if" shenanigans flowing from this. I was pondering something fast for torpedo boats. Common late victorian era torpedo boats were so called "Thornycroft-type" You know what Thornycroft was also experimenting with in 1900? Hydrofoils. Imagine this with a spar torpedo.

Fast Hydrofoils, Floating Logs, & Canada’s Ferry Electrification Challenge - CleanTechnica
Canada’s ferry electrification is real, but Vancouver’s hydrofoil to Gibsons faces hard limits from BC waters, floating logs, whales, and route economics.

In 1968, Canada launched the HMCS Bras d'Or. She was an experimental ship that became the fastest warship ever built.
Capable of traveling at 63 knots (117 km/h), her trial program was abruptly cancelled only three years later.
Let's learn more about this ship :)

Amazing, lol. Honestly, I get that. There's so much going on in this movie, from jetpacks to mink gloves, from body doubles to hydrofoils. It's great vibes tho.

Electric hydrofoils are quiet, emission-free and cheap to run. Proponents believe they could shift traffic from clogged roads to underused waterways. Some cities are putting those claims to the test econ.st/45XzBLd

On this day in 1919, a hydrofoil designed by Alexader Graham Bell, his wife Mabel and F.W. Casey Baldwin set a water speed record of 114 km/h on Bras d'Or, Nova Scotia. Bell began experiments in hydrofoils a decade earlier. The speed record stood for a year.
