If you actually watch Gavin Newsom's podcast I think you will lose any faith you have misplaced in him. I'm sorry! He capitulates repeatedly to the conservative provocateur B-team. I don't think he can do combative discourse well enough in person and I suspect he does not write his own tweets

I kinda feel like after blockchain, crypto and NFTs, tech bros are trying to speedrun the Gartner hypecycle to try to get to profitability quicker (i.e. fleece more before “trough of disillusionment”)
But it occurred to me that this whole enterprise of making sense of AI needs to be framed in the context of the messiness of AI itself, and AI boosters' overwhelming, promiscuous and disjointed Gish Gallop.

2) this is old news already
3) just hypecycle nonsense, no real threat here
4) OpenAI refused to release any information on the custom model, for all we know it was trained to hack websites and was instructed to do so

Working class people can play silksong, you aren't owed finishing a long game in the entirity of a hypecycle driven by people with heaps of free time. I've been very busy and enjoying slowly working my way through it, it's been nice to challenge myself with it every day

"No turning back" is a hypecycle induced by FOMO, in my opinion. There's always the ability to "turn back", or to redress the balance. If these models exist and cause larger widespread harm than saving one top coder x% of their time, we need to talk about that.

Yeah, every single thing about this "AI" hypecycle has been deeply terrible for the environment. If this gets it on the path to not just sustainables but even renewables, then I'll take it. I just REALLY think they should have chosen a different plant to start their push 😬
