Countries are passing laws that require you to prove you're an adult to use websites. This is technically onerous and a bad user experience for all, so why is it happening?
imo Meta etc. want to construct a high barrier-to-entry for other would-be website/app makers, to damage smaller competitors.

Seeing how much bsky has been putting into using external resources for embeds, I wonder if we could get custom support for p2p APIs like #Hyphanet? Unlike URIs pointing at a web server, Hyphanet URIs point at immutable content*, which would make content-based moderation easier.

the logical endpoint of this is "freenet solves this" (or i guess fucking hyphanet it's called now) but nobody wants to use Frost and FMS as their social media
