Today, we report a role for hypoxia in brown adipocyte differentiation and function via hypoxia-induced miRNAs, so called hypoxomirs - when cells consume lots of oxygen - like brown fat cells - does that cause a hypoxia-like response? The answer is YES - www.mdpi.com/1422-0067/26...
Hypoxia Regulates Brown Adipocyte Differentiation and Stimulates miR-210 by HIF-1α
MicroRNAs (miRNAs) are short sequences of single-stranded non-coding RNAs that target messenger RNAs, leading to their repression or decay. Interestingly, miRNAs play a role in the cellular response t...

Online Now: Hypoxia-induced ribosomal RNA modifications in the peptidyl-transferase center contribute to anaerobic growth of bacteria Online now:
Hypoxia-induced ribosomal RNA modifications in the peptidyl-transferase center contribute to anaerobic growth of bacteria
Ishiguro et al. identify stereoselective ribose-backbone methylations in the peptidyl-transferase center of E. coli ribosomes, installed by the cobalamin-dependent enzyme RlmX. These methylations, together with ho5C2501, are specifically induced under hypoxia. The hypoxia-induced modifications activate ribosomes, enhancing translational capacity and thereby promoting bacterial fitness in anaerobic conditions.

A hypoxia-responsive tRNA-derived small RNA confers renal protection through RNA autophagy
Transfer RNA-derived small RNAs (tsRNAs, or tDRs) perform a range of cellular functions. Here, we showed that a hypoxia-induced tDR, derived from the 3′ end of tRNA-Asp-GTC (tRNA-Asp-GTC-3′tDR), activ...

1) 🇦🇹 Interesting study that tested brain blood flow and metabolites under experimentally induced hypoxia (they gave ME/CFS patients less oxygen while lying under the MRI scanner).

The idea is that this might reveal brain differences during a stressor.

Oxygen deprivation due to flooding brings many changes in plant physiology.

SNP2Prot hosted Dr Romy Schmidt-Schippers from Uni Bielefeld today. Her work demonstrated key proteins and cellular pathways that adapt upon flood induced hypoxia.

yep & even as she’s off sedation, speaking there’s still the question of extent of hypoxia/anoxic brain injury or even chemical induced brain damage from the forced overdose

also depending on how her body continues to metabolize the drug, could wax & wane encephalopathy, clouding cognitive picture

A core aspect of the wiki is the incident report system, so that we learn from our mistakes to save lives. Today, we're proud to publish our first incident report.

Thank you to all the volunteers who took time to speak and work with us on this.

Meet our PhD student Rebecca! This year, she beat cancer AND published her first 1st-author paper on how hypoxia induces complement signaling in GBM, alters macrophage polarization, and how the C3-C3AR1 axis can be therapeutically targeted in GBM models. Just as low-oxygen levels stress plants that are exposed to flooding, so does post-flooding reoxygenation and the associated burst of reactive oxygen species. Work @nature, shows that in both cases, the same molecular players mediate plants’ stress response.
