i think the funniest reason why republicans failed is because Fascism is an inherently aesthetics based ideology, but instead of frogboiling everybody into being Nazis they went straight into Nazi iconography, unsettling everybody else.

Many antizionists are uncomfortable with is the sight of Jewish iconography used to justify apartheid and genocide. Israel is openly Jewish, openly framing itself as the only possible Jewish option. If you feel bad about that, imagine Palestinians caught between genocide and liberal chiding.

Reminds me of Richard Rorty's very prescient warning about the perils of liberalism giving up on patriotic iconography.
Also, it's another example of this thing I'm always yelling about: democratic leftism, progressivism, and liberalism have developed an unfortunate ick about using effective (and affective) propaganda and yield the space to fashy weirdos. Perpetual retreat from the icky is not a strategy for winning.
