Meanwhile, Centrelink is about to resume the harshest parts of its compliance regime. It fits the RBA’s NAIRU logic: keeping wage inflation down also relies on a pool of jobseekers desperate enough to accept criminally exploitative work.

Markets anticipate Fed interest rate decision amid oil price surge
Australian markets are poised for a slight dip following Wednesday's inflation data that exceeded expectations, increasing the probability of another interest rate hike. S&P/ASX 200 futures declined by 10 points, or 0.1 per cent, to 8874 near 3am AEDT. Traders are currently awaiting the Federal Reserve's interest rate decision, with policymakers widely expected to maintain rates at their current level. The focus will be on any indications regarding the future path of monetary policy. Wall Street investors have been cautious, refraining from major decisions ahead of key technology company earnings reports and the Fed's announcement. The S&P 500 index fluctuated, while the chipmakers index showed modest gains ahead of after-market results from Microsoft and Alphabet, which will influence investor sentiment towards the artificial intelligence sector. Oil prices have risen above $US116, driven by market expectations of increased tensions with Iran following the U.S. election. UK markets also saw gains in stocks and bonds after Chancellor Rachel Healey presented a low-key budget. The Australian Financial Review's coverage highlights the interconnected nature of global financial markets, where decisions by major central banks like the Federal Reserve have significant ripple effects across different asset classes. The current market environment reflects a period of heightened uncertainty, with investors carefully weighing the potential impacts of monetary policy decisions and geopolitical developments on their investment strategies. This situation underscores the importance of monitoring both domestic economic indicators and international events when making financial decisions.

While I'm not primarily interested in inflation art, I definitely love seeing when the victim is ABSOLUTELY inconvenienced and/or pathetic about it in silly manners, so of course the dig dug artworks depicting Fygar like this go insane

A bad decision when inflation is being driven by Trump-powered tariffs and diesel prices rather than economic exuberance.
With higher inflation expected to last longer and the economy showing resilience, Governing Council agreed to increase the policy interest rate to 2.5%

A little but VERY insidious headline

Think this through ..

Self-inflicted inflation and insecurity by Labor that's done nothing to protect our national security and resilience or address younger Australian futures and now, the media warning you to back off out of self-interest from helping!

Wow!

Fed holds interest rates steady even as inflation remains stubborn
The Federal Reserve opted to leave its benchmark interest rate unchanged — but investors widely expect the central bank to raise rates at its next meeting in December to combat stubborn inflation.

Fed held at 3.75-4%, waiting for more info to determine policyto returning inflation to target. Sees growth as strong but not overheating. Warsh noted inflation remains elevated and job not yet done and 2 dissents in favoured a hike. Less hawkish than exp, but more hikes likely

"The Fed has been unable to wrestle inflation down to its 2% target for more than five years ... Shocks have become the norm, not the exception. Cheap imports once held down prices; since the pandemic, repeated demand and supply shocks have pushed them ever higher"
Here is a full write up of my take on the Fed’s pause and dissents.

The dissents give the Fed credibility as consumer are still struggling with the top high a level of prices. The Fed says expectations are well-anchored. That is not what I hear from firms & consumers.

This is such regressive thinking taking money from the population. Record profits are ok apparently they don’t cause inflation but you workers buying stuff that’s the problem. Get a grip people and stop spending your money on food fuel and housing because you are causing inflation not profits

Trump needs it to stop elections in 2028 and disqualify the midterms. Go vote because the distractions, lies, and misinformation will increase the closer we get to joining the bombing against Iran. Get ready for the trifecta, gas prices above $150 a barrel, food shortages, and inflation. Thanks to
