In 1916 in NW Nevada, drilling for an irrigation well hit a pocket of geothermally-heated water & the well was abandoned.

In 1964, a geothermal energy company opted to re-drill the same area, but the water wasn't hot enough for use. They tried to cap the well but failed & the FLY GEYSER was born.

All right - but apart from the sanitation, the medicine, education, wine, public order, irrigation, roads, a fresh water system, public health, and extending Man United’s banter era for at least another fortnight, what have the Romans ever done for us?

2. We are making major plans to meet it head-on by installing new forms of irrigation (ollas, wicks, all sorts of slow release irrigation-more info to come on those), as well as adding temperature cooling additions to help resident wildlife & wildlife friendly plants, like adding more shade. 🌿🌱🇬🇧🌱🌍🍂

🇺🇦🙏 Bukovyna TRO soldiers spent 28 days digging an underground tunnel under Russian positions, working bent over in the pipe and on painkillers.

In June 2024, six soldiers worked in a former irrigation pipe with a diameter of 1.3 meters in the Pokrovsk direction.

Hori hori and my irrigation shovel. Both are good for getting out deep roots in narrow spaces. 🌱
Little fun theme for the week, is there a tool or piece of equipment that you absolutely cannot live without in your garden? Want to share it and why? Perhaps it could help a fellow gardener out! #GardensHour

I do not think that 'Tsunami' is a good metaphor for yesterday's US midterm results. A tsunami is a destructive, dangerous force of nature, not a human creation

Instead, I would suggest describing it as "life-saving irrigation", resulting from sustained grassroots organizing on the ground.

What the $&%* is a noria, you ask?

It's a hydropowered waterwheel used for irrigation and water supply that moves water from lower to higher elevations.

Good metaphor, non?

Innovation should make growers' jobs easier, not more complicated.

In Irrigation Today, Netafim USA's Abed Masarwa shares how listening to growers shapes better irrigation technology.
Bringing engineering to life in the field
After nearly 30 years of developing irrigation technology at Netafim, Abed Masarwa believes innovation requires a willingness to keep learning, challenge assumptions and reinvent yourself.

I try to grow my own food without irrigation. Ask me how it’s going this year.

Problem: Drought
Solution: Irrigation

Problem: Erosion
Solution: Fertilizer

Problem: Heat
Solution: ACs
...
Problem: Humans
Solution: Extinction
I don't want to irrigate the #food crops I grow. I don't collect rainwater. If I needed to manually irrigate, even with rainwater, I would be keeping crops artificially alive. I seek resilience, adaptation and low work. Ergo I don't adjust sowing & planting to an invented calendar 📆 but to nature 🌧️
